Well they hired him to fix it. Either he fixes it or he's probably gone next year

Nothing new......good at that when at LSU.

Well they have one good player for sure. Wish he wasn’t a jr going in the draft. That SS Kazmar kid is pretty damn good at least this weekend.

Paul has the pot-belly stove calling the kettle black. Let me fix it for him.

this would mean more if they weren’t drastically better last year.
He took over a playoff team and made them significantly worse
at least he kept Pitre from transferring somewhere he may have had success.

So he took this job last June(?) and Ray Tanner retired as AD in September? There has to be more to the story. Someone Tanner's age had to know he was getting close to retirement. Does anyone think Mainieri takes that job knowing Tanner was going to retire in 3 months? I don't.

They hired an old guy with the heck of a résumé from before the NIL era of college baseball.
Who hates to recruit.

He threw his kids under the bus at LSU as well. This is his style. You can call it honest but he highlights the things he wants for the purpose of not taking the responsibility of the loss. Our last pitcher throwing 100 mph has also had troubles in the past throwing strikes. My point is that he is truthful about what he says but doesn’t tell the whole story. You don’t hear him say he was out coached. As a coach there should be some respect shown to your players.

He’s rebuilding that program.
Rebuilding programs isn’t really a thing any longer in the portal and NIL era

He wasn’t throwing anyone under the buss, he was stating fact!

I don’t think it’s an excuse he openly said that the opposing team has more talent and there’s nothing wrong with that.
I did think that he had very well coached squad. They played well this weekend, but were outplayed

I think the right thing to do there is just general coach speak about “proud how the kids fought, we need to get ready for the sec tourney now. Moving forward we obviously need to be better”
No value in saying your players aren’t good enough. You can think it, you can know it, but you don’t talk to them through the media like that. Not at this point in the year anyway. Not gonna inspire anyone with that.
As others have said, with the portal now, there’s no reason for a team to from making the regionals to being terrible. You’ve got to look at recruiting at that point. Paul had a great run when he was dedicated and healthy but he stopped recruiting his last 3 years at LSU and I doubt that he’s become more motivated in that regard.

And JJ never throws his players under! We have a very good and dedicated coach. Some on this site needs to realize that.

I just remember when he was here and said something like “i dont know where they find them” referring to the bigger stronger faster players on the opposing team.
Posted on 5/18/25 at 7:21 am to tigerskin
Sounds a lot like he did his first year here - kept saying wasn't his fault the players he inherited were not any good. May have been true but he kept saying it so much the admins finally had to tell him to stop.

I just said what I thought it was. We went up against players that were better than ours. I don't know what else to say. The last kid was throwing 99, 100 miles an hour. I don't have anybody throwing 99, 100 miles an hour. Their two starting pitchers the last two days have over 120 strikeouts. You would have to add up three of our pitchers to get to 120 strikeouts. How many home runs does Jared Jones have? 19. We don't have anybody with 19. Sometimes, you have to just be honest about where you're at and what you're up against. The other teams are a little bit more powerful and better arms than we have. We are out there competing as hard as we can with what we have."
Very easy to get to the core meaning.
If you guys want a competitive SEC team like you just saw, I need NIL money.
