That fricking jersey better have "jackson" on it, not "abdul-rauf."

in fact, he tried to not make it public at all but someone from the media saw him and reported it.

Lol. For someone who is so sensitive and concerned about the falsely alleged, so-called "institutionalized racism and oppression" that he and others like him say happens in this great nation, you would think he would have researched Islam and all of real oppression that exists in that fricked up religion.

It will be Abdul-Rauf, that's his name now and he is a Tiger of LSU. We have to move on!

Its just kinda hard to ignore something so stupid. I was just responding to a post and making a point about how some of these idiots think. My bad, I took the bait lol.

I've never understood why LSU fans (or intellectually honest people in general) have never quite gotten their heads wrapped around this fact.

He went for a couple of weeks simply going through stretches and generally being quiet but not participating in the anthem until some reporter happened to notice and then asked him about it. THEN he simply told him why.

It was never, at all, anything like what Kaepernick did. It was not a protest. It wasn't to get any conversation started. It was just him doing something that was personal to him that was not bothering anyone else.

Once it blew up into a controversy...THEN he felt the need to start commenting on it. It's from then that you'll start seeing stuff that will piss many people off.

Point is...had no one ever said a word to him, there's good reason to think he'd have just gone about his routine all by himself not bothering anyone, and those that wanted to take part could have and both would have coexisted perfectly well.

People can feel free to agree or disagree with his religious viewpoint (but keep in mind he was once just as devout a Christian while at LSU as he is now a Muslim) or his politics...but can we at least acknowledge that what he did was NEVER some staged protest? The guy was never like that.

Can't we just celebrate what he did on the court while at LSU and stop fricking up every thread with politics?

Hey man, someone posted Chris Jackson's views on the matter in this thread and I responded to it. Chris Jackson and others of his kind are the ones who have it all fricked up. I don't give 2 shits about that motherfricker or his jersey being retired in the pmac. I'm sorry, but some things go beyond and are bigger than what someone does on the court, whether for LSU or not. His beliefs about this great country and shitting/disrepecting our flag and anthem is bullshite. frick Chris Jackson and his jersey. He was one of my favorite players as a kid and was a great talent, but he really grew into a piece of shite and isn't the type of human being I want to recognize. Sorry, just really strikes a nerve with me. Geaux Tigers though.

Beyond not participating during the anthem, what has he done that makes him a piece of shite.

To hell with Jackson or whatever he is calling himself these days. He is dead to me until he gives a public apology for the things he said in the aftermath of 9/11.

Beyond not participating during the anthem,
. My feelings have nothing to do with the anthem and if he stands or not. I don’t have time now to find it because I am at work. But he said some pretty bad things about the country and defended the actions of muslims after 9/11. This takes nothing away from
His talent on the court. He is still the best player I ever saw play for LSU.

Unfortunately I think Ponchy may be right.. This is has the potential to end up being a PR nightmare for LSU with all the conservative/Trump supporters. But I can only assume LSU is fully aware and is prepared for it, so maybe they have calculated correctly. I love Abdul-Rauf as a player and had no issue with his Muslim faith and sitting for the anthem, but some of his current views seem very anti-USA instead of pro-Muslim.

quote:

As well, Abdul-Rauf did himself no favors with some of his comments in the years after he was released by the Kings. His most controversial moment came during a December 2001 interview. He told HBO's "Real Sports" that, "The war on terrorism is a euphemism for a war on Islam," while suggesting that not only was Osama bin Laden not behind the 9/11 attacks but that Israel might have been involved -- pointing to what he said was the arrest of several Israelis in New York who were filming the World Trade Center as planes flew into the towers. To this day, he cites the HBO interview as cause for being wary of a media that has twisted his positions. Yet, on three occasions while speaking with Outside the Lines, unprompted, Abdul-Rauf broached the notion that the 9/11 attacks might have been part of a U.S. government conspiracy. He repeatedly brought up The Project for the New American Century, an ultra-conservative Washington, D.C.-based think tank established in 1997 to address U.S. foreign policy. Many of its members would later serve in the Bush Administration, and Abdul-Rauf cited its policy papers that called for regime change in Iraq and a bolstering of the American military; he pointed to a particular passage that said "the process of transformation, even if it brings revolutionary change, is likely to be a long one, absent some catastrophic and catalyzing event -- like a new Pearl Harbor." Abdul-Rauf extrapolates this to suggest it's possible the 9/11 attacks were the government-driven "catastrophic event" designed to drive the country into war with Iraq.

Those remarks are more stupid than inflammatory, in my opinion.

Also I dont think he ever graduate from LSU, which I am fine with them lifting that requirement.

You have to graduate to be inducted into the LSU Athletics HoF. Apparently you don't have to be in the HoF to have your jersey retired. I always interpreted the language that way, but I guess I was wrong.

But if it is gone, how is Maravich's Jersey not the first to go up at this point ?
