Getting to play this season, instead of sitting out the year.
He would get more value out of transferring somewhere and sitting out than going to JUCO. He'll get good offers based on recruiting reputation alone.
But it would be better to be on a D1 (and potentially power conference) campus even if he can't play, than to go play at a JUCO.

I suspect he was being the ”blocking TE” and with the other three TEs he probably was not going to see many targets this year.
He is from St Louis so he could be in line for a number of schools. In the back of my mind I would suspect ND is in play.
ND and Iowa (both of whom have a proven track record for developing TEs for the NFL) both came to immediately to mind.

You are reading way too much into my initial post.
1. Did I say he would transfer to JUCO? No.
2. Did I say he would benefit from going to JUCO? No.
3. Did I say that there was an option for playing time this year without having to sit out? Yes. That is all that I said, hence my response to you.

Sucks but we have brought it a bunch of pieces with really great potential. If they pick it up quick and continue to develop we will be fine.

You can transfer before school starts just not SEC
I’m not sure what you mean by this. He isn’t transferring anywhere in D1 and playing this year. He would have had to enter the portal during the spring window.
He can theoretically transfer his enrollment wherever he wants (SEC or otherwise). But he can’t actually enter the portal until December.
From what I understand, I believe that also means he can’t be on scholarship anywhere else until December. Because I’m not sure how you offer a scholarship to a guy who hasn’t even entered the portal yet without it being considered tampering. But maybe I’m missing some exceptions/waivers/etc. that he might have available to him.
I’m also not sure whether he can transfer somewhere else, without a scholarship, and “walk on” to participate in practice. I would think the answer is no, since it would require him to be in contact with other coaches before entering the portal, but again maybe I’m wrong.
The whole thing is just… odd.

Pimpton and Green arent exactly the blocking TE types.
Lol. We have no evidence to prove this.
Have Pimpton and Green already proven that they are terrible at blocking?
This is like when we assume that a guy can’t run because he’s white.
Being tall black guys that can catch doesn’t automatically mean that they don’t block very well.

I HIGHLY doubt this is due to playing time

Then what is the reason?

I think the question becomes “why would he want to leave so badly that he would rather not play at all than play at LSU this year?”
And I kind of agree it has to be something other than playing time, since whatever playing time he would have seen at LSU is presumably more than he’ll see at any other FBS program this year.
I can think of possibilities - a falling out with the staff, personal/family issues that require him to move closer to home, some sort of disciplinary or grades problem - but anything would be pure speculation. I’m not saying it’s any of the above reasons, so please don’t take it that way. I’m just offering examples of scenarios where it might make sense.

For those just thinking this is about depth chart, we only have 3 scholarship TEs now with 1 being a true freshman and Markway was always going to play a bunch as a blocking TE at the very least even with Pimpton and Green. Pimpton and Green arent exactly the blocking TE types.
Also makes zero sense to just quit the team even if he is going to transfer, its not like he can transfer anywhere right now, he has to wait till after the season is over. Something else gotta be going on here.
Dude, if a dude just up and quits a couple weeks into camp, it's usually about playing time.
He got passed up by green and pimpton. He just wasn't anything special.

Markway was running with the ones a couple days ago and looked like the TE2, but I think it has a bit to do with how he was being used.
Taylor, Green and Pimpton are all big pass catchers, so he was doing a lot of the dirty work with blocking, think that might've deterred him.

Green and Pimpton must’ve passed him up.

Have never understood this move, so you got passed up, big whoop. Practice, get better, stand on the sideline, transfer when the season is over. It's weak to quit on your team, even if you aren't getting playing time. It's a soft mindset. ETA this is assuming he doesn't have some injury he needs surgery for or something
Y’all act like football is the only reason people leave

Folks forget that he missed his entire senior year from an injury suffered during his junior season.

Or he decided he doesn't love football enough to deal with the heat anymore... Or doesn't like college.

Nothing good about this at all. LSU is now really thin at TE with only 3 scholarship guys, two of which (Pimpton/Green) that can't block worth a damn.
Posted on 8/6/24 at 7:47 pm to xtremecouture23
Called it in the spring. Kid will be fine elsewhere, we’re just too stacked at TE to need him.
