Freshman third baseman Luke Tucker will spend the 2027 season with McLennan Community College before rejoining LSU baseball whenever his time at McLennan comes to an end, Tucker announced on social media Wednesday.

Tucker, a former Arkansas State commit, was set to join LSU for this upcoming season after he was not selected during the MLB Draft last month.

LSU’s roster was set by the end of July, but after left-handed pitcher and fellow LSU commit Logan Schmidt failed to come to an agreement on a contract with the Cleveland Guardians after the club selected him in the second round, Schmidt wound up at LSU, which ballooned the roster to 40 players.

The addition of Schmidt meant that LSU would need to trim its roster back down to 39 players before the start of the new school year. Tucker’s decision to play at a junior college next season opens up that roster spot while keeping him in the fold in the long term.

If he was not going to get significant playing time next year, then this is clearly the best decision for him.

it's a good option for him and more freshman might start doing it to get immediate playing time

LSU and Tucker may have a deal for him to return but he still has to perform and nothing prevents other schools getting involved depending on how successful he is plus he could still generate some draft interest

will be interesting to see how patient Washington and Davis will be with lack of playing time in the OF available if Wachs, Laya and Waters are the starters

People like you, STILL don't get it. NIL is here to stay and isn't going away. These players are noticing that they can build their NIL stock up, and most of the time it's done by delivering results which means playing. What some of you guys fail to realize is that a player can be damn good in college, earn great money while here, and then never pan out in the MLB, ALA Gavin Dugas who just "retired".

I've said it before, and I'll say it again. Theres a school 60 miles from BR called ULL. It's in a BAD financial situation. We need to get them back into the LSU program and use it as our "farm" league for all sports. Players like Tucker can head 60 miles down the road, still be a part of the "program", develop etc. and even play while helping them build their NIL. Once we have room or we see a need, they transfer over. This could be so beneficial for our football team, baseball, basketball etc, while also helping ULL be a better team because let's be honest, they don't have the NIL support we have.

ProjectP's comment had nothing to do with NI or the current state of college athletics and had everything to do with Nicholas publicly giving up on the 2025 team during the regular season.

Well, not a bad place to grow. MCC knows ball. Heck, I'm not going to mention him by name but a great kid from Katy whose mom is a Laffy beauty and started at MCC 4 years ago made the show last year. Recruited by LSU, Arky, Aggy, DBU and many more after his MCC performance. Throws straight 99 smoke. They grew him up and committed to Aggy. Never made it to College Station. Best of luck to our future Tiger.
