The numbers you are quoting are estimates for THIS year, not last year. What they did spend last year anyway was not spent in the portal, it was spent on HS recruits, so any return on the investment wouldn’t be seen until future seasons. Some of you guys are just so desperate to make Kelly look bad that you don’t stop and think about whether what you are saying even makes sense.

At the very least we should fire Javi.

Exactly. LSU FOOTBALL did not spend the 3rd most in college football last year. As a school, LSU’s total NIL collective increased to top 10 in value, but that gets spent across all sports. They didn’t even spend 7th most in the SEC. In 2025, the projections will be much higher with the roster turnover and retaining Nuss. This will all change again with Revenue share.

LSU coaching is not the problem

This is definitely not true on offense. It might be true on defense. Defensively we were such an enigma. Play terrible one game, show progress the next, play great, then play terrible again. Defense success was entirely dependent upon defensive line play.

Offensively we need a change. I’m sorry. Red zone play calling was atrocious. Offensive line play in the running game was atrocious. And it never got better. And they never made adjustments. That’s on coaching.

And obviously every team who doesn’t spend the most must do other things to win. Better coaching, get kids to aspire, pride in your performance and recognition that an individual can both contribute to team success and improve their chance to make the NFL. Do those things and very good, 4 star recruits, can win it all.

Every time I see someone say coaching sucks, I’ve yet to see who you (or any one else) suggests instead? I’ve asked repeatedly. Never get an answer.

It’s a silly question. We are fans, not ADs. We haven’t studied the coaching ranks the way an AD should.

When LSU hired Nick Saban we didn’t know much about him, outside of his record. But the guys who hired him had the benefit of seeing the man handle himself in an interview, and noting how he prepared for that interview.

I think NASA does a piss poor job and should be overhauled. That’s not an illegitimate view just because I can’t name the administrator who should be put in charge. I could say Elon Musk, but he’s not available to run NASA.

I dunno where he is getting his info from, but LSU was nowhere near 3rd highest in spending.

"Catastrophic" is more than a bit extreme.

LSU had a winning season & won a NY bowl.

Some of y'all need to take a few steps back from the ledge.

Agree, maybe the third highest spenders in the second portal widow

I don’t think they are taking the behind closed door billionaire donors for some of these teams into account. Because I’m pretty certain that Phil Knight has probably shelled out more than anybody in the country so far for Oregon.

Last year lsu didn’t even go in portal that heavy Only reason they are doing more this season is because of revenue sharing agreement that impacts 25 season They lost high school recruits to usc and Texas and Ohio st by dropping out of bidding war

They didn’t have the money. That went to all of the sports. Even if they were holding back 2 million this summer. Not last year.

That’s all they had. Again, it’s a misconception to think that 20 million they had was for just football. Ohio State spent 20 million on just football. LSU was metal to lower pack in the SEC for spending on football and it had nothing to do with holding money back.

The best, most elite coaches are always on the message boards and on social media. All kinds of analysis, breakdowns, and criticism but no actual substance. Who’s your pick for coaching staff?

It’s a fair criticism. We need to make more of the money we spent. I do think Kelly is directly responsible for everything that happens in the LSU program especially with him being a CEO type coach.

Will Campbell gave us our money’s worth in pass protection, but not so much in the running game, lol.

I don’t think you can have a successful run game with well below average center & guard play
