The squad performed well in prelims and qualified for 12 events. They have a decent chance of exceeding 100 points at Nationals which is ridiculous.

So, as someone who only follows this whenever I hear LSU is good, can you explain why/if we have a shot at a title? And if so why did Arkansas win the SEC ship? Is it just cuz LSU having a much higher number of athletes to qualify for ncaas?
So like Arkansas has more depth for points all over the place when you can get all your athletes in, but LSUs top tier talent is way better?

Your last paragraph answered your own question. Very often teams who win the Natty don’t win their conference titles. LSU women have an absurd trophy case but many times the girls won the sec they didn’t actually win nationals.
The men have four bonafide Olympians which is unreal for a college program. If the men don’t win it this season Dennis shaver will never win another national title at LSU. We’re so damn good.
The women have a good shot but their points aren’t as steady as the mens

Okay so when/where do I watch to see if we can bring this baby home?

We have the best shot at the title as we have 12 events qualified for and some more than 1 person.
As one of the posters said, we have Olympic quality athletes and NCAA LEADING TIMES/JUMPS in 5 events and should win therefore bringing home 50 points (10 goes to first place), and that is just 5 events, we are in 12 (with multiple people), and 2 others events we have the second best times.
In the SEC meet, we were leading by a few points then the 10,000 meters happened (2nd to last race) and Arkansas had 7 runners entered and 3-4 were very good, and they scored 24 points to put the meet away. LSU only had 2 runners in that race and they are not very good. LSU did not even run the 4 x 400 because the SEC meet could not be won, and because they had already qualified for the NCAA's.
Once you get to the NCAA, a team cannot load up an event, only the best go there and compete with ALL the top colleges, and those other teams have good distance runners to offset all the Arkansas runners, so they get much less runners in the NCAA finals after prelims and only so many runners qualify for the championship race.
LSU has the top times or second best times and jumps in the following:
100m College 2nd best time in 2021 T. Laird 9.80 Wind aided. Best time was FSU 9.94 legal wind
100m hurdles best time in 2021 D. Thomas 13.22
200m College best time in 2021 T. Laird 19.82 Legal wind, he ran 19.81 wind aided, but 19.82 justified it
400m College best time in 2021 N. Williams 44.30
400m hurdles Leading time or 2nd 2021 S. Burrell 48.92
4 x 100m relay top 2 times in 2021 T. Laird & co. 38.50
4 x 400m relay top 2-3 times in 2021 around 3:01
Long Jump- leading jump in 2021 27'-8-1/4" ft. J. Harrison
High Jump- leading jump in 2021 7'8-3/4" J. Harrison
Just the above guys and events should easily get 60-70 points, low end 50 with some mess ups, or up to 80-85 with all great results. Then you have a few other field events, and if all perfect above, 85-100 points could possibly be achieved

Sean “Squirrel” Burrell might be the most surprising for me, he’s a beast and just a freshman. It sucks that Achane isn’t on the squad, I heard he really wanted to be at LSU instead of A&M.

What is a typical point total a team will need to win?
Posted on 5/29/21 at 8:33 am to smash williams
9 athletes didn’t get through. That’s what I know.
Shaver has won 1 title since he has been there in 2008. The men’s 2004 title was really Pats team.
What has he done? 32 chances. ZERO

Which of those 9 were expected to make Nationals?

I guess I am just skeptical but I’m expecting us to come up just short as always. We always seem to have something happen like dropping the baton, tripping over a hurdle, etc. This coach is like DD and Torina...always close but usually not on top. Maybe this will be our year but I need to see to believe.

———-
Over the past decade, higher 50’s or low 60’s is the typical winning score. Oregon had a great team with back to back winning scores over 80 about 5 years ago, but a total that high is rare air.

And none of those 9 were supposed to get through you. You have no idea how track works

How many Texas relays have you been to? How about NCAAs? SEC Championships?
I attended Pat’s first of many. I’ve been to every one that was in LSU and UT and Oregon twice.
Here is what I do know. You get the kids through that are expected and you have a shot. It is the kids that are NOT expected to get through that win the titles for you.
I know many of y’all are not attending because there are very few that have my skin color in attendance. I know that much.

Yep. No matter how loaded a team he has, Shaver always manages to frick things up at nationals.

Sitting in the stands doesn’t mean you know how track works. Your posts make that obvious.

Oh you know that? Give us documented instances of the following people scoring at the national meet:
#67 in the 100
#44 in the 110 hurdles
#60 and #68 in the 200
#95 in the pole vault
#39 and #51 in the javelin
When you fail to do that, try telling us what kids Arkansas women and Texas tech men got through that they weren’t supposed to and won them the championships in 2019.

50-60. But this team is anything but typical, and was projected earlier this season, to crack the 100 point barrier. No team has ever broken 90.
LSU's most recent projection has been downgraded somewhat after Regional.
Lets just hope Shaver, doesn't make this too close to close for comfort.
