None of this probably means much in terms of what's in store on Saturday, but history does show that we've had success in Omaha against SEC opponents.

17-7 overall
12-5 against teams that were in SEC at time of meeting

1987: 5-2 win vs Arkansas*
1989: 12-7 loss vs Texas*
1991: 8-1 win vs Florida; 19-8 win vs Florida
1993: 13-8 win vs Texas A&M*
1996: 9-4 win vs Florida; 2-1 win vs Florida
1997: 13-6 win vs Alabama
1998: 10-8 win vs Mississippi St.
2000: 13-5 win vs Texas*
2003: 11-10 loss vs South Carolina
2004: 15-4 loss vs South Carolina
2009: 9-1 win vs Arkansas; 14-5 win vs Arkansas; 7-6 win vs Texas*; 5-1 loss vs Texas*; 11-4 win vs Texas*
2017: 4-3 loss vs Florida; 6-1 loss vs Florida
2023: 6-3 win vs Tennessee; 5-0 win vs Tennessee; 4-3 win vs Florida; 24-4 loss vs Florida; 18-4 win vs Florida

LSU won to go to 2-0 in Omaha. There wasn’t anything stopping them it seemed.

Those back to back losses to South Carolina in 03 and 04 were a bitch.

LSU pounded Arkansas twice in 2009, great games.

9 out of 24 (almost 40%) of CWS games vs Florida. That’s a lot.

South Carolina was a solid program back then.

we have won 7 titles since the 90s. Of course we have had success against all.

Still can't believe we did not win it all that year. It was LSU's for the taking.

It was a huge disadvantage for us when the wind changed that year. However, the wind changing and blowing in during the '23 season worked in our favor. It evens itself out.

I will be curious to see what the wind does this year. If it starts blowing in hard I would expect that to work in our advantage as well with our pitching staff.

And they think it's a good idea to reduce the roster size? Hard to grow the game when people see scores like this in a championship series. No one will have any pitching left next year

That 5-0 win to eliminate Tenn in 2023 was so sweet

We used 18 pitchers this year, one of them was a two way guy.

The bottom 5 pitchers combined for 13.1 innings.

That's Beck, Fontenot, Thompson, Dorsey, and Woods. Trimming off the last three would knock us down to 15 pitchers and less than 10 innings lost.

I don't think the trimmed rosters are going to have a huge impact. It's basically just going back to pre-2020 rules, minus one spot. I think it will mean that the bottom of the roster will get more opportunities because the at bats, appearances, and innings that were spread out over 3 or 4 guys will be consolidated to 1 or 2.

But at what point did we know who those bottom 5 were going to be?

I guess in the example you used of our team this year, we knew those 5 guys weren't going to pitch much preseason. But how often does a guy come on mid-season to become a major contributor? What about when factoring injuries?

We knew the bottom 3 were the bottom 3 all year.

Beck being a two way complicates things in the example, but he would have had a roster spot because of the two way ability. We probably would have just seen him on the mound more.

Fontenot threw early, and then came on late. He only had 5 innings all year, but some of those ended up being quality innings in SEC play. (It's why I'm hoping he's back next year)

34 guys means probably 17 and 17 pitchers vs position players. If you drop the bottom three and add in Guidry and Sheerin, that's 16 pitchers and a two way.

What’s even crazier is that USC needed extra innings to avoid going 0-2 that year

Didn't we hit like 7 or 8 homers in one game that year?
USC was just on a tear that year.

We hit 8 against USC in the opener and then 6 against Mississippi State in the next round.
