Imagine Maravich and Hayes on the same team.

The Joe McKnight metldown is so funny because he was the best player we didn't need. We were stacked at RB at the time.
What? Do you not remember the meltdown over losing him?? To say it was huge was an understatement!!

It's one thing to lose a stud to Miami in their heydey (Ed Reed)... but to San Diego St? That's why Marhsall Faulk is the biggest whiff. He would've come to LSU had we allowed him to play RB.

Everyone whiffed on Faulk except for San Diego State. He was considered a better DB recruit than RB recruit. Even San Diego State signed him with the stipulation that if he didn't crack into the Top 2 at RB, he would be moved to DB. And if I remember correctly, he only cracked the Top 2 because of an injury.

If I remember, Ed Reed was not heavily recruited, but Miami sure got a gem. Marshall Faulk? Wow, what an oversight by LSU- let's make him a DB...
But to what someone else said- Can you imagine if LSU recruited black players in the late 60's in basketball!! Elvin Hayes & Don Chaney are playing with Pistol Pete in an NCAA Championship, and no one would have ever heard of Univ. of Houston!!

Joe Ferguson didn't come here because of Bert Jones ..

Yeah they tried to move heaven and earth to get him on the team, but at least we kept him in state. He was going to Baylor if it wasn't for a call from John McKeithen.

Taking Jamie Howard instead of Jake Delhomme

ZERO excuse for why Mauck was still in that game in The Swamp. That 02 team was stacked.
I was at that game. Dammit that still pisses me off. No reason for him to be in there. It was a thorough beatdown.
It was great to beat their arse at the swamp though.

Hank Lauricella is up there.

Yeah losing Mauck late in the game was a bummer. Would've won the west with Mauck. Mauck not staying in 2004 was a bummer too.

What about guys like Eddie Lacy? LSU signing him would have had a huge impact not just b/c we had him but also b/c Bama didn't. Are there any other guys like that who not only didn't sign with us but they played against and hurt us with the team they did choose? Another one is Landin Collins. We could have used him this year and after Sunseri went down he was crucial for Bama. If we had gotten him, even if he was sitting on our bench it would have hurt Bama this year.

In my opinion, the Mannings are the only two who would have made a huge, program-shifting difference. With Peyton Manning, the 95-96-97 teams could have all been national championship contenders (this assumes Hallman still would've been canned after the '94 season) instead of above-average SEC teams (not to take anything away from the '95 team, whose turnaround was pretty remarkable). That 1997 team in particular would have been special. Add Manning to Faulk, Collins, Mealey, Faneca, Todd McClure, Robert Royal (I think he started as a true frosh on that team), Abram Booty, Larry Foster, et al - that is a sick offense.
With Eli, perhaps the 2001 team is even better and actually contends for a BCS Title. Also, the 2002 team would have almost certainly won the SECW with Eli at QB.
Marshall Faulk would've no doubt put up huge numbers, but those '91-'94 teams were so bad I don't think even he could have made that much of a difference.
As for Ed Reed and Reggie Wayne, the '98 & '99 teams were so dysfunctional I'm not sure they would've miraculously made those teams winners (and a lack of talent wasn't the issue anyways). No doubt they could've helped the underachieving 1997 team, but they would've been true freshmen and may not have received much playing time. The real difference would've been on that 2000 team (Saban's first year).
