He had a solid career at A&M. He was a first Round draft pick of the Cowboys, where he played one year and had to retire because of a congenital spinal defect that was aggravated by a bad hit.

He was also drafted by the Yankees.

In recent memory, Greg Robinson was the biggest miss. Surefire first round pick this year at Left Tackle. Come to think of it, has there ever been a Louisiana high schooler that was drafted in first round as an Offensive Lineman? Surely there has been but I cannot think of anyone.

BILLY CANNON JR. At the time, LSU was struggling, we were losing recruits to out of state schools, and the son of the greatest football player ever to wear the purple and gold signed with Texas A&M.

Beat me to it. He & Paul Ott Carruth (stud RB from MS) were both supposedly headed to LSU that year but neither did.

Also, people that believe Archie would have allowed any of his kids to play at LSU are delusional. He's probably still pissed about that 61-17 beatdown the Tigahs put on him in 1970.

I remember missing out on a pretty good LB to Tennessee in the 90's. His name escapes me. Was a big in state loss at the time.

Eta: raynoch thompson

Major Applewhite? I know that despite going to school in BR he has no affinity for LSU and like the Mannings he probably never would have gone there. But he was clutch at Texas. IF by some act of God he'd shown up at LSU, I think he would have made a difference.

Speaking of no big loss, whatever happened to Alice McConathy? Did he ever finish that tranny procedure?

Did anyone mention Neil Smith? - he should be in the conversation.

Leroy Hoard - not in the upper echelon of that list but would have had a storied LSU career I think

Michael Stonebreaker - all American linebacker at Notre Dame

Damn, this list is hard to choose from. I will go with Faulk I guess just because I would love to have seen what he could have done at LSU. Bradshaw is my pick for second.

Any Ole Timers know Terry Bradshaw's story? I've always been curious how ended up at Tech. I just assumed that we passed for some reason.

Didn't have the grades to get into LSU.

I don't think it's fair to count the Mannings since they weren't coming here anyways.

Indeed, if anything it was Ole Miss that missed out on getting both.

John Fourcade and Tommy Wilcox turning down LSU for Ole Miss and Bama helped get Charlie McClendon fired. Fourcade was a 1st team all-SEC QB and Wilcox was an all-American safety.

Didn't Faulk go to SDSU? What made him go all the way our West to a no-name college?

LSU offered him at DB...he insisted on playing RB and SD State offered him at rb....
