ESPN us phasing out the "free" (with cable/satellite/etc) streaming service and going to force everyone to pay a monthly fee for streamed content

At least that's the appearance I'm getting

It's only the inventory not included with SEC network package. I don't see the SEC network changing but who knows what programming will be like on ESPN in 10/20 years.

CST will have the Wally Pontiff Classic

The solution is to stop playing non conference road games for baseball.

And never schedule Texas in Austin again as long as the Longhorn Network takes precedence for a TV standpoint. You are better off going play Texas Tech in Lubbock.

Hopefully it stays that way

I'm already used to having to pay extra as I needed a quality VPN to view any WatchESPN content while overseas last year

No they aren't. It's been this way since streaming started. Before ESPN+ you could only watch these road games on CST, if at all. Now you at least have an option to watch them.

You can sign up for a free trial. Just remember to cancel your trial after the game (or within 7 days).

But if you were outside of the CST broadcast area, like me, those games would show up on the watchESPN app for free. Now they want me to pay for it. So it is different.

I already burned my free trial for the first semi-local away game...

I will gladly Venmo someone $1 to stream it on Youtube or some other host, like before.

It's not ESPN. It's coming from the top. Disney is doing the same thing. They plan to slowly roll out a 100% pay to stream service within the next year or two. They're obviously not making enough money.

Do the trial or spring for the five bucks a month that will have content that your normal cable will never have.
