Great game from one of our all-time best teams. You see Tommy Casanova (37) playing offense and defense, Andy Hamilton (80) scoring on a bomb early in the game and the Tigers blocking a FG and an extra point.

I had talked to Jimmy Gilbert's father the day before the game, and he told me what the first play was going to be, so I was one of the few people who wasn't surprised.
Jimmy was a great quarterback at Bastrop when his dad coached there. At LSU, he played quarterback, defensive back, running back, even served as the holder for kicks.

I was 11 years old. I remember thinking there was going to be a halfback pass for a touchdown on the first play by LSU. That’s what happened.

George Bevin with the blocked PAT.

I'd been looking for a game from the 1969 season. I was only 4 years old but this was the team I remember my Dad and older brother talking about. I remember my brother made his own make-shift #37 jersey out of a T-shirt as he was a big fan of Casanova. I vaguely remember some conversation with him the next year where he informed me that from the 1970 season on, Casanova would no longer play offense.

was there, a senior in HS. Remember the first play. Cholly Mac cut his head on his clipboard sometime that day. That 69 team was one of my very favorite. We got screwed w/ the ND bowl fiasco, a reason I still hate the irish. Loved Mike Hillman

My first game live in Tiger Stadium; what a great introduction!,

Lucky! My first several live games were Purple and Gold games from the early 70s. The first real game I attended was probably a 1977 LSU v. Rice game where we scored 77 points and Carlos Carson had multiple TD receptions.

I was a student in the stands. I was blown away by the play choice. Coach Mac did not usually surprise anyone with the play calls. This one was a HUGE surprise...well received in the appropriately hydrated student section.

Great game. I was there. I was 11 years old but can still remember the halfback pass and the blocked extra points very clearly. I can’t remember what happened last week but I can remember that.
And listen to the crowd. I have often said on here that some of the loudest games I have ever been to was when the stadium held 67,500 people and this is a good example of it.

That brought back great memories. Two things stand out after all those years: 1) Cholly Mac's great kickoff / handoff play, and 2) Best endzone paint scheme ever.

Yeah I like the style of those end zone paintings but we used to paint the opponent’s logo in the south end zone back then. I can do without that.

I was at this game as well. Auburn was favored. We were all worried about the Sullivan - Beasly show. It was too early in the season to know what a great defense we had that year.
This was before the divisional split in the SEC. Auburn was one of the teams that we rarely played, so there was a different atmosphere. It was televised though, which was a big deal then, so everyone was excited.
Another curiosity about this game was that it was a day game for television. That disrupted a lot of schedules and the day drinking after the game was tough.

I was a freshman in Tiger Band in 1972. I was out of the band in 1977, but sitting in the North End Zone for the Rice game. Carlos Carson was unbelievable!
