It's not an excuse, it's a fact. Florida State also went to the national championship game last year before falling to Oklahoma.

Whether you like it or not, Juniors and Seniors have more experience and perform at a higher level than freshmen and sophomores. LSU was stacked with underclassmen this year.

I am simply quoting Tigerbait357 from earlier in this thread. Beth is running out of excuses and the “youth” excuse doesn’t fly.

quote:

A couple of things... This is misleading due to COVID years, more than half the lineup has been here for 3-5 years. Three of the 4 major pitchers are have been here for at least 4 years. While they have young players they aren't that young. It doesn't matter how young or old players are if they aren't developing or progressing from year to year. LSU was the only SEC team that didn't win a single game in regionals.

They’ve been young, starting a freshman at 2B, and RF and sophomores at LF and 3B. By the end of the year you had a pitcher playing RF. That’s the youth issue.

They flat out just haven’t been very good at pitcher and catcher.

The issue has been SHE SAYS ITS THE YOUTH EVERY SINGLE SEASON,

I've got an uncle who is 87 years old and he will boldly state to anyone that he is young!
Can't blame it on being young every year, Beth!

It’s a little more complicated than that. The team was young last year, but there were a number Senior leaders like Andrews, Doyle, Antoine, Thames, Gorsuch, etc. This year they had Sunseri and that’s pretty much it. The team lost its confidence after the Miss St losses and they didn’t recover. As it turns out, that was as much about Miss St getting hot as it was LSU not playing well. With last year’s leaders I think it turns out differently.

As to the notion that the program is in decline, I think that’s also an over-simplification. The offense was awful in 2018 and 2019 but has been on an upward trajectory since. The pitching was still very good 2018-2020 but has regressed just as the offense came together. Who knows what could have been in 2020? And if Sunseri and Wickersham had pitched as well in 2021 and 2022 ad they started in 2020, this is a different team with a different trajectory. Torina deserves blame for not righting the ship pitching wise sooner, but she has great prospects coming in. If there is no progress next year and no WCWS in the next two, then it’s time to move on.

I said what I had to say and I moved on... guess I'll have to go back and look and address this issue again...

Oh, it was because you said she should concentrate on being a mother and move to Destin and coach high school ball. Basically you said that motherhood has caused the program to go down... yes that was asinine... just like saying Notre Dame football went down because Brian Kelly was raising his kids.. it works both ways. I've seen many coaches who are mothers do quite well in their careers...

Honestly the only player who I would take would be Kilfoyl (who is injury prone) but outside of that LSU needs to focus on 2B, Catcher, and another 2nd pitcher to compliment Kilponen.

I know they have 3 highly recruited pitcher recruits coming in but they are just true freshmen. Unless Chaffin makes a jump, they will need someone to emerge to help Kilponen. They cannot just ride one pitcher all season.

Goodnight is very good, While I normally would gladly take a player like that, LSU has more pressing issues right now to address.

Kilfoyl's dad sent out a tweet asking for prayers for his daughter who was having surgery today, Just seems real risky to go after someone coming off surgery, ( I dont know the type procedure) but who has been injury prone.

Yeah, let’s cut starters responsible for 182 starts, keep their backups, and hope for better.

Torino prefers a smaller roster compared to the COVID-super sized model the past years.
Aside from the six new freshman, don't expect many, if any, transfers from the portal.
They've got every starter back except Sunseri (DP)

So we are banking on the roster as it stands next year to get back to OKC? Could they do it? Maybe, but it would be dumb not to try to get a couple of good players from the portal, especially given we have some glaring weak spots that is not guaranteed to get fixed.

The portal is one of the few places where you can go get a player and know what you are getting from them. The class we have coming in is very talented but nothing is a given with freshmen HS recruits. They could show out next year or not produce much, putting all your eggs into that basket is quite a gamble..

Yes you made an open ended comment out of emotions. Is typical now a days so I don’t hold it against you. I just want you to prove what I said isn’t outright facts for your emotions to be so moved……I’m still waiting by the way.
