While I get your angle, I actually think Kevin could do well here. I am friends with him and can tell you that hiss technical knowledge and motivational talents are off the charts. That does mean something.

No offense but it just means you are biased because he's your friend. There is more to coaching than being a great player and lots of people can motivate. If Mawae wants to coach, he needs to prove himself at a lower level.

“Hi kid. My name is Coach Kevin Mawae. I played at LSU and in the NFL. I’m in the HOF of both. I can teach you what I did to get there.” Done. The guy is literally the best to ever play the hardest OL position on the field. It’s insane that anyone could have anything negative to say about getting that guy on the staff over Jeff Grimes.

Firing Grimes is a separate issue. It is more insane to think that just because a guy was a great pro player that he can recruit just cause. If that was the case then why aren't all college staffs littered with former all pros?

I think that's going to happen in the off-season. Doubt if O will the plug during the season.

This OL is so bad talent wise, don't know what KM could do right now; maybe just simplify the blocking scheme to where they can execute it without all the mental mistakes.
Worth noting recruiting is happening now... pretty much all year. If that's where a large portion of the problem is, and in my opinion it is, pull the trigger. Waiting only hurts.

In CFB there is no "offseason" because of recruiting.

O doesn't want a more "Louisiana boy" than him on the staff. Then he'll lose the only thing he has.
Just stupid.

He does have SOME now having been with Da Bears for about a season now. Not saying that's enough. I'm also in the camp that OL coach is one of those where being an experienced player outweighs coaching experience, or can.

I played with him as well.

And no offense, I know quite a bit more about coaching oline than you. Seriously not trying to be a dick.

In my humble opinion, a change of some sort is way overdue for our OL. They have been a weakness for some time now. Coaching or players, perhaps both: something needs to significantly change here for any meaningful improvement in the offense can begin!

Why not hire Miles to replace Grimes as oline coach... LSU is already paying Miles

None taken, I know nothing about coaching or playing OL. What I do know is there are people that do about coaching and I can see people that are successful in that field. And they do not have to be great former players. Those that are successful also typically did not start out at top programs but worked their way up gaining relevant experience over time and weren't just handed jobs because of the skill as players.

Coaching career
In 2016, Mawae joined the Chicago Bears coaching staff as an assistant offensive line coach. He was not retained by the Bears for the 2017 season.

Love Mawae but a one year career as an assistant OL coach makes one qualified to be an OL coach at a
P5? That's Alleva kinda thinking right there.

You're right. I don't think alot of people realize Aranda never played. Despite some recent issues, he's a damn good coach.

As long as we're on the subject, if no Mawae (for whatever reason) I'd like them to go after TJ Paganetti (Eagles) or Mike Hallett (Toledo)

Just because you can’t name another OL coach doesn’t mean we should just settle for a name we know. This is how we ended up with Orgeron.

I don't agree with this. I think our talent level is good. Barring our injuries, our OL should be much better than what we're seeing.

The poor OL play is inexplicable.

While we are at it, let's get Karl Dunbar out of Bama and back home to coach the d line.

Rob Sale is more qualified than Mawae and has been coaching college olines for several years at McNeese, ULM, Georgia and now at Arizona. He played for LSU and is from Monroe...he could close the borders and take back North Louisiana.
