Neh, I’d rather us play games like this vs McNeese St
me too.

But the facts are what they are...

What is the goal: National Championship

Does playing Clemson opener: increase or decrease our chances?
- based on it won't increase it, then it can only (but not necessarily) decrease it.

BIRMINGHAM, Alabama (September 19, 2025) – The Southeastern Conference will announce the football opponents for the next four years for every SEC school on a one-hour television special, SEC Now: 2026-29 Football Opponents Reveal, scheduled for Tuesday, September 23, at 7 pm ET on SEC Network and ESPN2. The show will be hosted by SEC Network’s Alyssa Lang with commentary and analysis from Auburn national championship winning coach Gene Chizik, ‘Mouth of the South’ Paul Finebaum, former Alabama standout quarterback Greg McElroy and Super Bowl champion Benjamin Watson. The show will provide the match-ups and sites of SEC football games for the next four years. The dates of games for the 2026 SEC football season will be announced in December. The SEC announced in August that it would begin playing a nine-game football schedule beginning in 2026. The SEC previously has played eight conference games each year since 1992. Under the new format, each school will play three annual opponents focused on maintaining many traditional rivalries, and each team’s remaining six games will rotate among the remaining conference schools. The new format will allow each team to play every other SEC program at least once every two years and every opponent home and away in four years, making it the most fair and balanced schedule in the history of the Conference. SEC teams are also required to schedule at least one additional high quality non-conference game from the Atlantic Coast, Big Ten or Big 12 conferences or Notre Dame each season.

From the sec website. Notice that last sentence

It’s like some of you can’t help being this casual.

We are now REQUIRED by the SEC to play one out of conference P4 team every year. If we dropped this game, we would have to pay a fortune to replace it.

Also, Clemson is mediocre as hell and we all know Dabo won’t be fixing all of their issues in the portal. This is the perfect game to start 2026.

Begs the question if UGA, Florida, South Carolina, and Kentucky will ever schedule another P4 opponent again since they have annual ACC rivals to satisfy that requirement already.

Lose 1st game of year and already likelihood of making CFP is significantly reduced.

No doubt. But still can do it. Even if you get whipped by a team that has a horrible season. Hey Bama!!!

The SEC already requires one P4 OOC opponent. That’s not a new requirement.

Hell to the no. I have personal hate for them since childhood, they do not get let off the hook. And why would we? We have a great shot at winning.

Clempsun is losing a ton of good players, with others entering the transfer portal. QB, two O tackles. best LB, best WR, Dline.Their backup QB's are awful.

Dabo has only recently used the portal as it goes against his philosophy. His minimal portal recruits haven't made much difference. They aren't expected to have a top 20 recruiting class.

Their OC is leaving so they'll be breaking in a new one.

Dabo is a clown. He sprints out onto the field before his team does...wtf.

Clempsun fans are already spun up for a loss. Let's not disappoint them.
