I think they'll lose 3 games and be hit with a big dose of reality

Have you seen their schedule? Taking that projected finish, they only play two teams in the top half of the conference and one of them is OU. Their road games are favorable, and they do not play any back-to-back road games.

Why does that matter? They're far more likely to make the playoffs than LSU just by schedule alone. Their team is very good. They went all in for this year as their window to finally win something. If it's going to be any year it's this year. Even if it ends up like you said they'll probably at most have 2 losses and if they're unlucky, 3 which probably gives them enough clout to snag a playoff spot. That would be a dangerous low seed for anyone in the country to be playing looking at Ole Miss on paper they have a top 2-3 SEC team this year.

Having a good team on paper and actually doing what is necessary to go all the way is a completely different thing. Again, like I said, Lane Kiffin has been known to have these problems. Also, you're moving the goalposts you originally set for them. Seeding makes a hell of a lot of difference in these games. If LSU and UGA both beat Ole Miss, Ole Miss will likely be that 10th/11th seed. The 5th plays 12th, 6th plays 11th, and 7th plays 10th. If you remove UGA, Ohio St, ACC champ, Big 12 champ, the 6th and 7th will likely be LSU, Texas, or Bama in this scenario. I just do not see Ole Miss going on the road to any of these schools and beating them in a playoff environment. Their best bet is to finish in the top 7 spots to play a home game vs a none SEC team. Also, if Penn St goes 11-1 and misses out on the conference championship win, you could go to a white out game in December in the frigid cold with possible snow, vs a team looking for revenge for what you did last season.
quote:

They're actually being generous to LSU I think. Looking at LSU's schedule they're more likely to miss the playoffs just by schedule alone even if they're one of the top 5 most talented teams in SEC. LSU also has the most questions in that top 5 outside Bama. They could've easily ranked LSU much lower but they have obvious respect towards BK.
how much lower? Using what you said, only two teams could have a higher record than LSU and that's solely based on their schedule.

Also while you're thinking it's respect of BK, i think it's respect and knowledge of the moves BK did on defense and the guys replacing the guys offensively. He did by far the absolute best job you could do in replacing every position on defense. Baker turned a defense ranked worst than LSU was last season (by 30 spots), into a top 60 scoring defense, his first year there. If he does what he did there, at LSU, LSU would have a top 50 defense.

With Nuss, the new emphasis on the run game (and elite talent like we haven't had since Fournette/Guice), and a top 3 OL in the country, this offense isn't falling that far. Run the ball more and keep the other team off the field. Become more methodical in the pass game with a few shots down the field every game. LSU has the recipe for a top team with an easier than you think schedule.
quote:

Even if LSU is a good team this year a few ball rolls one opposite way can ruin their season with how brutal their schedule is. Ole Miss can slip up multiple times and still slip into the playoffs. LSU has far less margin for error on their schedule.
They literally have the same margin for error

LSU schedule is nowhere near brutal and has been rated one of the easier SEC schedules by a slew of people. Our schedule sets up perfectly actually.

Glad about this... bulletin board material for our team. Plus we get our 2 toughest games at home.

As far as us, I am buying into this squad more and more as we get closer.

Based off what? Team hasn't had a defense or a running game (outside of Jaden Daniels) since 2019.

I agree, and I'll add scheduling has been very friendly early for Lane and will be again this year he'll likely be 6-0 coming into BR this year. He was 7-0 coming in here two years ago off that soft schedule and got his arse kicked. Had we won last year in Oxford as we should have I'm not so sure it ends alot differently last year for him.

Media predictions are absolute garbage because 90% of them are not true journalist, but fans living out a dream covering their favorite team. You hear them on the radio and it's hard to tell who is the journalist and who is the fan because they sound just alike!

Agree w you on Texas.
I see them locking in on Michigan, UGA, OU and A&M but completely overlooking a team like Kentucky and getting ‘upset’.
That wouldn’t be an upset either, that’s just the SEC.

The offense averaged 5.2 yards per rush last year if you remove Daniels. That would have been good enough for #15 in the country.

LSU had to fire the entire defensive staff and lost a Heisman QB, 2 first round receivers, and the offensive coordinator.

The hard truth. The defense was abysmal and the offense lost a lot.

I think Texas, Bama, and Ole Miss are all being overrated a bit. I don't think there is much separation between those 3 teams and LSU

Bama is being extremely overrated. New staff, new system, same shitty QB. The name “Bama” does not automatically mean championship team.

Bama needed 2 miracles to beat Auburn and squeaked by in the SECCG. Even so, had Jordan Travis not gotten injured, it would’ve been MUCH harder to justify putting Bama in over the ACC champ.

Bama had so many lucky breaks last season that masked the fact that it wasn’t a great team. It was to the point where I started to believe my dad when he said Saban sold his soul to the devil.

I don't think you all realize just how good the SEC will be this year. Ole Miss is really freaking good.

2. Omiss ( hate to say it)
3. Texas ( mostly becuz of schedule)
4. LSU - defense will be much improved ( could swap for #3 with Texas)
5. Alabama

All depends on if this team has a pulse on defense.
