re: LSU not ranked by ESPN as one of 8 "Blue-Blood" CFB Programs

The only one with which I take umbrage is Michigan. That program has won one national title since the end of the ‘50s. It’s an overrated program that would rank no higher than Georgia or Tennessee in anyone’s mind if it was located in the South.
I think 9 is a good spot for LSU overall.

Wouldn't call Fla State or Michigan blue bloods. They had legendary coaches with over the top personalities. Media darlings

My Question Exactly! Whose agenda only needed 8 teams as opposed to top 5 or top 10 or 25?!
BS!
BS!

quote:a lot of this is true, but "blue bloods" isn't just about the last 10 years. Bama had a big lull from '95 until Saban arrived, and the SEC East dominated from the early 90s through mid 2000s.
It will definitely give us more respect in espns eyes lol. What also is overlooked is the division we play in and in which conference we happen to be affiliated with. We play in the toughest division in college football bar none, and it's been that way for a while now. We have to play bama every season. I promise you that if you take some of those "blue bloods" on their list and put them in LSUs position and competing against who we have to week in and week out, year in and year out, both in recruiting and on the field...some of them wouldn't have had nearly as much success as they have had historically. I promise you that. The sec has always been a tough arse league and our division has always been tough as well.
To me, the definition of blue blood has to include all years going back to the 50s or 60s. Obviously, it's a vague definition, but merely saying those blue bloods wouldn't do well in the SEC West (as it's been for the last 10 years) is a really poor way to determine if they qualify.

My question is, if LSU can finish off this season with Burrow winning the Heisman and the Tigers winning the NC, does LSU deserve to jump Nebraska (#8) and/or Texas (#7) into blue bood territory?
Yes. As if that matters.
If-if-if-if-if . . .
. . . . if this team skates thru this season undefeated, with a National Championship, and the Heisman, it will go down as the greatest in LSU history. The same would have been true of the 2011 squad though.
So suffice it to say, we have a long row to hoe and many challenges yet to go.

I had no idea Minnesota won multiple national championships. Thanks for posting the article. And, why isn’t LSU’s 1908 championship ever mentioned?

wasnt Florida St basically considered a mid-major until the 80s?

Win the natty this year and we pass Nebraska. They are like Harvard and Army, once upon a timers.
Posted on 11/15/19 at 2:54 pm to PhillyFan1994
If you take a random sample of college football fans nationally and ask them to list a top three bucket list of venues to visit, LSU’s Tiger Stadium and probably Notre Dame will be 1 and 2.
All other random statistics are meaningless.

5 clearly isn't enough, and 10 or 12 sounds like too much. 7 or 8 seems about right.

With a national championship this season, LSU will pass Nebraska for that 8th spot.

Yes. Not sure why FSU is considered a blue blood. They were nothing until the 90s, and they haven't done a whole lot since Bowden left.

I'll take beating two of them MFers in one season.

Do not care in anyway about this nonsense
Posted on 11/15/19 at 3:20 pm to PhillyFan1994
Nebraska's down and probably never returning to glory. Michigan is a product of playing ball forever. I mean they do have 11 national titles but most of those came prior to the end of the great depression and the last one was shared with a superior Nebraska squad. I mean, why not just throw Minnesota and West Point on the list?

#9 on someone's list, but #1 in our hearts

Agree with most of the list, with some exceptions. Nebraska and Oklahoma have been good programs for a long time (Nebraska not so much recently), but they piled up a large number of wins and ships in that powerhouse league the Big 8, where most of the time whichever one of them won the head to head game, won the league. Reminds me of Clemson in recent years, piling up wins with no comp and only having to win one game against real comp and then not until the cfp. Minnesota, while not being relevant recently, until this year, has 7 titles they claim and 2 that are unclaimed, more than most of the blue bloods. Just noticed that list came out 3 years ago.
