NET update

Ole Miss - 92 (-2)
LSU - 95 (-2)
UGA - 100 (+1)

UGA enters as a wild card. If they upset UF today then they could take the last coveted SEC NIT auto bid!

frick the NET. It appears as though every time we do something good it doesn't change and very time we lose a game we drop like 5 spots. I don't understand it as a metric.

LSU was moving up after the wins over South Carolina and Kentucky. Then they not only lost to Miss. St. They got manhandled and torched by what was not a great offensive team in state. They then followed it up by getting an ugly win over a bad Georgia team.

The NET incorporates the predictive data metrics (KenPom, BPI, etc) which ranks offensive and defensive efficiencies. A team like Miss. St is ranked MUCH higher than LSU, despite having only a 19-12 (8-10) record compared to LSU's 17-14 (9-9) record because MSU has an elite defense (25th best) and ok offense (55th). LSU is much lower because they have a bad defense (94th) and bad offense (94th).

The records aren't that different. But the data says MSU is a MUCH better team.

LSU played some of the worst NET teams in college basketball, so some of this is on the scheduler. Also, if you want to really refine this, Nichols got blasted by McNess in their league championship, and that probably was a NET negative for LSU.

I remember when we just flat refused an NIT bid because it was beneath us. Now we’re begging for one.

That was the end of Johnny jones. The team quit and didn’t want to play. Very disappointing season.

This is only relevant for the automatic NIT bids. There can be more than two teams from each major conference.

LSU has more to gain by the results of other games as the deeper South Carolina and Kentucky go the wins over them become amplified. I would expect the history and tradition of LSU basketball would give them an edge over mid major teams within the 80 to 90 range so their true subjective NIT net score is probably about 85 at this time and can only go higher based upon South Carolina nd Kentucky results.

More like we didn't want to deal with the optics of accepting the invite and then Ben Simmons opting out of it for the draft.

Correct - if A&M does not make it, it will automatically be them and then either Ole Miss or LSU. Will be based solely on NET and as of this morning Ole Miss is 95 and LSU is 96…

Ole Piss has two teams hovering around Quadrants

They beat Memphis at home. Memphis is ranked 76. 75 would be Q2. They lost in their tourney so hopefully they stay at 76 or drop.

They beat NC State at home. They are ranked 69. That’s a Q2, need to drop to 76 to be Q3. They play Duke today. Their win yesterday against Wake didn’t help.

I don’t see any other teams we’ve beat or they beat that are close to changing quadrants.
Maybe if nc state loses and some others can jump them and they fall to 76 we’ll jump Ole Piss.

Lunardi dropped Indiana St out of his last four in and bumped Texas AM up from last four out to last four in in his latest prediction. He has both Mississippi St and Texas AM making the tournament. That puts Ole Miss and LSU as the next two highest teams in the NET rankings to not make the tournament, giving them an automatic big. That's assuming that Lunardi is correct with his bubble teams which is not always the case
