no, 8 is perfect. Only 1 more round of games (have the first round on campus) and allows all P5 conf champs to get an auto bid and only allows the committee to select 3 at-large teams.

An 8-team playoff out of 130 FBS schools is just fine.

For comparison, the FCS playoffs has 24 teams in a 125 team division, with 10 auto qualifiers and 14 at-large teams selected by a committee.

March Madness, of course, does something similar, with conf champ auto bids and at-large selections by a committee.

An 8-team playoff field is the right way to go. And we'll get there. It adds excitement, another round of great matchups, more great teams in the mix, and (of course) more money.

An 8-team playoff automatically rewards the conference champions but does not penalize those teams that did not win their division or those that lose in the ccg.

I would only automatically include a G5 school if they were ranked in the top 12 by CFP committee. There should not be an automatic for the highest ranked G5 because that is a slap in the face of a deserving P5 team.

I’ve been saying this for a while. Teams that win their conference should be rewarded heavily for not only playing an extra game, but beating a worthy opponent. If you just shoot teams into an expanded playoff regardless of the outcomes of the conferences, you’ll be greatly diminishing the conference championship.

In almost every single scenario in an 8-team playoff, the teams like OSU and LSU would almost always serve better to just sit out the conference championship to not play another physical game, because there is zero chance they would not be on the playoff at that point. They would still play a 5-8 team, which are almost always a big step down from the top 4.

If they expand the playoff, give huge advantages to conference winners, and make wildcards prove it on the field in extra games. That’s the only way to do it. Any other way is just this shite system but bigger.

Don't dilute the playoffs! There are 2 variables that need to both increase before expansion should be considered:
* the number of potentially eligible teams,
* the length of the regular season

You expand the playoffs without those numbers going up then we'll see Group of 5 teams getting an automatic minimum number of invitations and almost immediately Bama will always be paired against a G5 team whenever they get into the playoffs.

Don't give the powers that be extra ways to misbehave!

NO CONFERENCE CHAMPIONS should be automatically in PERIOD...
unless deemed one of the BEST teams by the BCS

Let the BCS decide and use their 6 teams
w #1 and 2 getting a bye
or
their best 8 teams.
Stop configuring a championship artificially.

The big headache for the committee will be if LSU loses. They will be forced to either select the best team with 1 loss and have 2 SEC teams in CFP or pick a 1 loss conference champion.

If LSU wins, the only issue they will have is OU versus Utah.

Close-I think only the final is neutral. That makes the regular season paramount.

There should be no f’n headache. We went undefeated in the toughest conference. If we win tomorrow and we are still not #1 it is total bull shite.

which is stupid.
Oregon has no business in the playoffs this year.

March Madness, of course, does something similar, with conf champ auto bids and at-large selections by a committee.

there is a reason not nearly as many people pay much attention to the regular season for either of these.

i agree we’ll get there.

you’ll never convince me it’s the right thing to add shittier teams to the postseason.

There are no deserving G5 teams. They need their own playoff system.

Is there even a mathematically possible way to have this

quote:

I actually like 6. You will always have people feeling left out, but the top 6 are really the most deserving to me.

without having this

quote:

And no, I do not agree with any idea of a bye for the top two. That is just silly and causes even more debate and outrage.

No headaches now, imo.

Georgia wins:

OSU
Clemson
Georgia
LSU

LSU wins:

OSU/LSU
Clemson
OU/Baylor winner

i don’t trust the committee to do this.

Lord knows that I don’t trust the committee, either. I just don’t see putting a team whose one loss is Kansas St. in over a team whose one loss is to #4 Georgia in the SECCG.
