I agree with 8 teams. Not so we can get more undeserving P5 teams in but so we can get one deserving G5 team in and so we can have first round games on campus.

That would be amazing.

8 teams is at least 4 too many

This year and last year a 3 team playoff would of sufficed. The year before that a 2 team playoff would of been good.

Fla - I think LSU is in regardless. So if LSU loses its just an easy 1. OSU 2. Clemson 3. UGA 4. LSU the committee doesn't have to debate OU vs. Utah, or Utah vs. Baylor.

The playoff has already been expanded and people can't realize this --

Tonight:

#5 Utah vs #13 Oregon. If Oregon wins, Utah is eliminated. If Utah wins, they need LSU to win to make the Final 4.

Sat morning:
#7 Baylor vs #6 Chokelahoma: An impressive win by either puts them in position to make the Final 4. Especially if Oregon beats Utah.

#2 LSU vs #4 Georgia: The winner advances to the Final 4. LSU may lose and still make the Final 4, if the games work out the right way.... Oregon beating Utah would help.

#1 Ohio State vs #8 Wisky: With a win, Ohio State advances.

#3 Clemson vs #I dunno Virgina: Clemson advances to the Final 4 with a win

IF....

#13 Oregon beats Utah....
Baylor and Oklahoma play to 38-35 game....
and LSU wins and
Clemson wins and

#8 Wisconsin beats #1 Ohio State.....

#1 LSU
#2 Clemson
#3 Ohio State
#4 Wisconsin
#5 Oklahoma / Baylor winner

So.... the playoff has been expanded. There are 7, maybe 8 teams that have a shot at making the Final 4.

Needs to be 6 AND played at home sites until the championship to preserve the regular season.

Agreed. #1 & #2 seed gets a Bye. #3 vs #6 and #4 vs #5 higher seed host at home stadium. The next round moves to Bowl/Neutral Site Games like the current format.

But the bracket and movement after games is decided in a meeting room instead of on the field.

So for being #1/2, you get to play in a neutral site game, rather than hosting your first playoff game, while #3 and #4 get to host a game? What's the logic there?

A 6 team playoff is the dumbest idea.

Either do 4 or 8.

Wisconsin will not be in over the big 12 champ.

I agree, but only if the P5 Conference champions are automatically included. The talking heads of college football always talk about "how every game counts"....that is an absolute lie, when the biggest game a team can play(conference championship game) can get left out of the playoff, while a team you beat that didn't even win their division gets invited to the four team playoff.

An 8-team playoff automatically rewards the conference champions but does not penalize those teams that did not win their division or those that lose in the ccg.

I would only automatically include a G5 school if they were ranked in the top 12 by CFP committee. There should not be an automatic for the highest ranked G5 because that is a slap in the face of a deserving P5 team.

That's a tired argument.

People use the NFL playoffs as an argument about making the regular season less important. There are only 32 NFL teams. 12 make the playoffs. That over 1/3 of the teams.

There are 130 FBS teams, and 65 P5 teams. Letting 8 in does not detract from the importance of the regular season. It simply gives us more football.

The Cowboys are 6-7 and are going to the playoffs.

The regular season has damn near meant nothing.

Also, CFB > NFL. NFL should try and be more like CFB not the other way around.

Pros and cons to both.

8 teams remove the conference championship games and top 4 teams get home field advantage.

I'm pretty sure I addressed that in the original comment.
