The current state of LSU basketball is what happens when executive leadership makes a poor decision.
Now, this one decision is not indicative of all of LSU sports. It's just indicative of LSU basketball.

Worse. It's when they refuse to admit they've made a poor decision.

If they stink it up this year, no possible way he gets another year.

The roster doesn't look deadbeat to me but what the hell do I know.

The roster is average. It’s certainly not elite. Bottom third of the SEC.

A reporter for every McMahon win

Most of the reporters are filming their own footage behind the cameras. Jacques, Cauble they all do it

Jacques took the pic so obviously he's there. Other news stations in the state aren't sending people out for this deadass program, they'll just get the BR affiliate clips if they even talk about it all.

but then pass off the fact LSU will be picked to finish 15th or 16th in the league despite "spending a ton of money" on transfers this offseason.
EM preseason rankings for SEC teams

This.
Even though I didn't personally like the firing of Wade, I could understand LSU's rationale for doing so at the time...even if I didn't agree.
Of the 6 new coaches hired in the SEC that season, McMahon arguably had the best resume aside from Mike White...who is the SEC basketball version of Jeff Fisher. Unfortunately, it became clear pretty early on for anyone willing to look at the situation objectively that McMahon may be in over his head at this level of competition.
After 3 years and NUMEROUS players, McMahon had the worst record in the SEC during that period (by a not that small margin), and LSU was the ONLY school, including Texas and OU, who had not made the NCAA Tournament during that time. In fact, LSU hasn't even been in the remote conversation for a bid during the last 3 seasons.
Missing on a coaching hire is not unheard of. In fact, it's pretty common. That's not the sin. The sin is refusing to accept the "miss". That's what LSU did after this past season. Now, it's possible, probably likely LSU will be better this year than last season. But "better" doesn't necessarily equal "good". In year 4 of a sport where there is more roster turnover than any other and where the success of a program can change drastically in one offseason, "mild improvement" shouldn't be the baseline to continue on. It should be the goal of every major conf. program to try to compete for a NC. Look no further than Florida who hired a HC with a lesser resume than McMahon, who consistently had lower ranked transfer/HS signing classes over the last 3 years, yet will be dropping a NC banner in a few weeks.
If the answer to the question of "do you think this HC could lead this program to competing for a NC ?" is no...then any minute more of keeping the HC is a wasted opportunity.

How much you wanna bet everyone in that room realized they weren't at the right class the second McMahon walked in

Was im the anti McMahon boat after his third or fourth SEC game of his first year. And he’s had no answers for league ever since. I hope he can figure it out cause I love the pmac when it is rocking.
