re: LSU MBB RUMOR: Tyrell Ward to redshirt and enter transfer portal in offseason

I noticed an uptick in effort from him defensively last season. He improved his stance, his lateral movements, his spacing. At the end of the day you can either guard or you can’t but those who can’t at least need to give effort and he’s getting there. Losing him would definitely impact the other end of the floor.

I do think Ward was a liability on defense. He was a smooth shooter, but i dont really care about his recruiting ranking any longer, we know what he is. I dont think he is some great 5 star now. He slacks too much on one end of the floor and isnt very diverse in his offensive abilities. But still, its one less scoring option on a team that needs it

There was the rumor he wanted to leave last year... Which didn't happen. So hoping more of the same here and that it's just a rumor.
Would be a pretty big blow for this season and next, I can't imagine he wasn't going to be a 20+ minute player.

I think defense is at least 70% desire and the mark of a true competitor. Great players want to kill you on the offensive end. But they want to kill you more on the defensive end. That's what made guys like Kobe and Jordan great. They HATED the thought of another player thinking they could beat them on the offensive end.

I just knew he would transfer in the off season to a big school. I was so happy he didnt. Major blow.

Could it be Ward is wanting a bump up in NIL money considering what maybe is being thrown around on current recruits especially Cenac and CMM isn't going to go down that road?
His defense hasn't been a real focus for him and that is a big issue with CMM (hence the Bailey & Carter props and playing time), that being said I don't think it is a "starter role" or even a PT issue for Ward as I'm sure both are or were in play to his favor, sounds like something else - external or NIL related.

With it being this early to the start of the season I feel it might be NIL related

If this is true, that means our transfers and freshman are all better than him
This is what I’ve gathered from watching the team during the offseason.
Funny how I got downvoted for saying Vyctorius was better than him

Seems like he ultimately just got passed up by the freshman and the Richmond transfer

This is what I gather as well. It’s a big loss, but I think other players rightfully took up his minutes.

Dji and Tyrell are different players; Ward shoots 10% better from 3, while Bailey is undoubtedly the more well rounded guard. They both bring different things to the table and I don't understand how 3 new guards = no substantial minutes for Tyrell. He would still be leaned on a lot this year.

This, Dji is a completely different player from Tyrell. He is not going to be much of an offensive threat, especially from 3.
The only player similar to Ward is Miller who is just a freshman so I guess we'll see how much he can fill into those shoes.

We're fortunate Sears is a much better 3 point shooter than Cook was, he should be able to command the 1 the best we have seen in the McMahon era. We don't necessarily need Ward's 3 point shooting in this case, but it undoubtedly takes our ceiling down a notch, losing a wing that has all conference potential.

Vyctorious Miller is going to be a problem from 3. He is going to light it up.

Vyctorius is the truth.
I don't think people realize how good this kid is going to be.

If true, I wonder if people are still wondering what might have caused him playing time last year? I made a post about him being lazy defensively and having terrible body language and the best they could come up with was "he's a good kid, it was McMahon's fault". He might be a good kid, but his attitude clearly sucks. Also, if he's losing minutes, it's not to Cam Carter, it would be to Victorious Miller. Also should tell you something.

Perhaps.
I also wonder if you might see some more 3 guard line ups with Mike Williams on the floor with Carter and Sears? I was impressed by Williams. There were times during most games where he made some dumb decisions, but he was a freshman. He wasn't overwhelmed by the competition or the moment. He shot nearly 40% from 3 in SEC play.
