I know the names, watched the team, just never really considered them one of the best ever. The USC teams were better than that Miami team IMO

How can this year's LSU team be the best of all-time, and be better than all of the greatest teams ever, when it took OT for them to beat a team in the same season?? This isn't Bama's best team of all-time, and yet LSU only beat them 9-6. I think this is LSU's best team ever, but not close to being best college team ever.

That is stupid. They won the game you idiot. Thats the goal at the start. Win the game. How they did it is irrelevant.

Nebraska 95 is the greatest team of all-time, period. Beat 4 top 10 teams by an average of 37 points, including a 62-24 demolition of Florida in the Fiesta Bowl. Won games by an average score of 53-14; won every game by at least 23 points or more. 27 players went to the NFL. ESPN, SI, Sporting News, Sagarin, and pretty much every other noteworthy sports outlet lists them as being the best.
great post. Thanks

How does LSU compare to this team so far?

Best team ever maybe not, but most proven national championship team would be hard to argue with.

Don't use the nfl transitive property. Miami was unbelievable no doubt, but this team is no slouch, and can play with anyone

Regarding Miami circa 2001, Kellen Winslow, Jr. is the most arrogant punk to ever put on a college football uniform. That's sad to say, because his dad was one of my heroes as a kid when he played for the Chargers.

when did i use this. here are their stats from the year

The Hurricanes scored 512 (42.6 points per game) points while yielding only 117 (9.75 points allowed per game).

The offense set the school scoring record, while the defense led the nation in scoring defense (fewest points allowed), pass defense, and turnover margin. Additionally, the Hurricane defense scored eight touchdowns of its own.

our offense might not score a TD

great point. But you have to look at the year as a whole. Very few of those "best teams ever" played a schedule like LSU has this year

Yeah, I don't know about all of that either, but if they win it, they will probably have played the toughest schedule ever in getting there. They have beaten 9 winning teams - 8 of them going to bowls including 3 to BCS bowls. Four of the teams they beaten have 10 wins or more and three were 2,3 and 4 at some point in BCS rankings. And LSU still has to play #2 Bama again.

Not at all am I busting your balls, I'm just making the comment because a lot of people get caught up in draft results when comparing teams in college.

Nfl drafts potential, and athletic ability, when alot of these guys didn't have stellar college careers.

But I still shake my head in amazement everytime I see that 2001 roster.
God damn they were loaded

Sounds at least similar to LSU this season and LSU played a tougher schedule.

LSU is way too limited at the QB position to be considered the greatest team ever. May be the greatest schedule ever though.

95 Nebraska won all of their games too, you idiot. He is not claiming that they aren't the best team this year. We are being asked to compare them to the other best teams of all time and anyone without a bias will tell you that Nebraska and 01 Miami, among others, dominated much more than LSU.

Many of Alabama's fans claim this to be the best bama team of all time. You don't because you are trying to make a point, but don't sell Bama short they have a prolific defense and all of them will be pros. Bama's oline and Trent are sure to be pros. McCarron whos to say until he shows up in a big game but he has time. I think this Bama team is better then the 09 team for sure.Lsu will go down as one of the best of all time. Who can say that they had to beat the true #2 team in the country twice with one being on the road.

That is unheard of and I guarantee you the nebraska team you tout and hype would lose if they had to play their closest rival again. So don't discredit Lsu this is will be a battle of titans. If Lsu comes out victors they will be remembered with 97 nebraska as the greatest. When we look back at the talent on lsu and bama at the same time when they make to the nfl in a few years you will be in awe.

They were plenty of bama fans posting on tidefans last night what if our best team ever doesn't make it to the title game. But I reread what I posted about Nebraska and I forgot their wasn't much parity that year. Yeah Florida was great and they pasted them. I'm just saying LSU should have equal claim to if they beat bama again. Their seems to be parity between Bama and Lsu that their wasn't between Nebraska and anyone else if that makes sense. Btw I got a little carried away and didn't mean anything against Nebraska that team was unstoppable that year but it was a different era.

I would bet against this LSU team against nebraska 1995, USC 2004, and Miami 2001.

Many others would be tossups. Our offense is too shaky.

I'm not even sure this years team is all that much better than 2003 or 2007 lsu. The sec was stronger those year IMO.
