re: LSU is not a rebuild. LSU hired O to avoid a rebuild.

It's unrealistic to think Mullen would have growing pains but O wouldn't based on our current roster configuration
But one of O's responsibilities as an assistant was roster configuration. So if we knew that was a problem going into this year, why promote one of the primary causes of the problem?
A new coach would get a pass because he inherited a mess he didn't create. Orgeron helped create the mess he took over.

Struggle had come to be known as one thing under Miles...not winning or seriously competing for championships.
What most people are worried about now is the sudden acceptance of Orgeron possibly setting a new standard for the term "struggle".

Promote a new guy to HC and OC in ANY program and there will be "rebuilding"
I can give two examples, Les was hired, no rebuild necessary. Jimbo was promoted, no rebuild necessary.
That's what happens when you have the recruiting base teams like FSU and LSU has.
Plus anyone can win 10 games at LSU was the narrative for so long.
Oh and forgot Ohio State. Went 6-7, hired new coach, went undefeated. Again, programs like that shouldn't rebuild. They get too much talent.

quote:At least with Mullen I know he has the time to operate a successful SEC program, that has bad recruiting and less money than say LSU. This is why Mullen has a good team every 3-4]years because it takes the time to develop. There is no doubt he is a great offensive mind and can develop and brick into a SEC Qb. I expect quality control and discipline from the head coach, we have had 30 penalties in 3 games.
That's incredibly false. Mullen would be bringing in an offense so different, we don't have anyone to run it. Also, Mullen installed a 3-4 this year. Didn't look like his defense needed much of a transition.

I was a Miles fan so I'm not dogging him but we finished 9-3 that year. The Arkansas and Ole Miss games were just as bad as the Miss St game.

QB
RB1
RB2
WR1
WR2
2 OL (Minimum)
DT1
DE1
OLB1 (Rush End - Key)
OLB2 (Thompson)
MLB2
That's being optimistic in the hopes that we don't lose Jackson, Toliver and Battle. Yeah, next year should be better.

Jimbo was promoted out of the CEO model if you remember. Bobby Bowden's corpse presided over Jimbo and Mickey Andrews. They didn't win shite (won nine games once, no more than 7 the other three seasons). Jimbo becomes head coach, and poof, FSU looks legit again.

There is no recipe to plan for the NFL & transfer attrition we've had to go thru the last 2 years.
Our most talented players are freshmen. Our returning players have disappointed.
We're still playing with Miles' shitty OL targets.
Our best Def player has been fricking around all summer
Our best DL didn't play
We have the worst WR group in 25 years

Where are Jackson toliver and battle going?
Posted on 9/19/17 at 10:12 am to Lester Earl
Under Ed O, they will be ejected for targeting, more than likely.

with a true sophomore at QB? and no RBs?
the excuses are already built-in

Agree with all of that.
The one ONE small thing I will say is that this year wasn't supposed to be a championship season or anything. Not under Miles, Herman, or even Urban Meyer.
We lost a shite ton of experienced talent from last year. I think 9-3 is what most LSU fans expected this season.
However, a 7-5 season with a couple of blowout losses is not acceptable. And it seems that's where we are headed.

Mullen would be bringing in a completely new offense that we have neve run. O's LSU team is not engaging in any sort of a similar transition

Then Orgeron probably shouldn't have promised one.

Jake how can you complain about Miles' downward trajectory for years but expect something different in year 1 of a new coach when they fire him(which was long overdue as we both know).
because we basically hired a guy to continue the Miles era, but he happens to be worse at being a HC than Miles
Lester has a point and you might be little premature on your assessment of Coach O.

Where was Malachi Dupre going? Don't ignore the rest of the post because it shits on your narrative. Even with all three of them coming back LSU is not going to be better next year.

I don't disagree. I'm just not ready to say it's a failure after one game.
I have faith in aranda to get this D right. I feel like eventually they'll give our more talented WRs some run, among other things.
If this team shows marked improvement over this season we'll have reason to be optimistic. If not, then I'll join you in saying this may have been the wrong move

struggle would be losing a tight one to MSU on the road. Struggling is not looking woefully unprepared and getting physically manhandled. That shouldn't happen
