Agreed. Coleman improved throughout the year. Not pitching him for 3-4 weeks was almost inexcusable.
Edwards was pretty solid from start until this weekend when hopefully had a temporary injury. His bad outings were usually the result of multiple weekend appearances.

I thought the Covid draft played a big role in why he pulled out.
Covid had nothing to do with it. Based on talent he was good enough to be drafted even if it was limited to 2-3 rounds. He pulled out because his asking price wasn’t in line with the slot value of where teams had him on their board.

Freshmen pitchers

196 IP
190H
111 ER
205K
89BB

5.10 ERA
1.42 WHIP

9.4 K9
4.1 BB9

K's are usually a good predictor for success. Gotta get the walks down. New coach hopefully has a better plan. But the K's are promising.

I wish the stat site showed batters faced to get a K% and K minus BB%.

I don't feel like doing the leg work on that. But those are good in concert with K9 and BB9.

Laziness like this is why we aren't in Omaha.

Do you explore Morgan to the OF to open 1B for another offensive player? Do you approach Crews & see if he’s open to catching?

So change 2 of the only stable positions from this year?

Crews moving to Catcher would be drastic and like i said, wont happen.

Morgan moving off of 1B isn't that wild of a notion.

Listed as an OF on his Cape Cod team roster.

It seems to me that we are going to have 3 OF spots and about 5-6 potential starters without adding Morgan to the mix.

Agreed.

ETA: I just remembered that Baseball Reference would give me the info I was looking for.

Freshman pitchers (I included Murray even though he's no longer on the roster):

K% - 23.5%
BB% - 10.4%
K-BB% - 13.1%

Walks need to come down.

I mean do y’all want to stay in this rut or become the old LSU again

There’s no real true CF and Morgan can be that guy, alll while helping you put an optimal lineup on the field

Gio is fine and has proven to be at least an average SEC player. But they need to get serious about moving forward into a new era. I’d rather not run it back

Obviously we’re going to have to see what happens with the new coach and inevitable roster turnover. I really don’t know enough about the recruits we have signed to say if any of them could be day starters anywhere on the field.

That said, it’s hard to me to not see Gio out there day 1 if he’s still on the team. That could just be a me thing though since I haven’t ever seen Morgan play OF.

Morgan is a good defensive first baseman, and he’s VERY good there for a freshman, but his defense is overstated. Best defensive first baseman in the country? Come on.

Go ahead, name a better one. I’ll wait

I agree With you that Morgan was great at first. My first priority would be an I field That’s doesn’t require such a good 1st baseman to bail out so many bad throws to first.

But realistically, the BEST defensive first basemen is a luxury vs getting another good bat in the lineup.

Crews to catcher is an insane recommendation. Has he ever been a catcher before? Is there any reason to think he’d be good at it?

Yes he caught for Team USA. And practiced at catcher to add depth. I highly doubt he ever will see catcher again.

So is Crews projected to stay in the outfield?

Yes. The notion of him behind the plate is not as dumb as dumb people think. It would open an additional spot in what will probably be a crowded OF and address a position that got nearly nothing offensively. It's not going to happen, though. Milazzo will get better. We'll get at least 1 solid recruit in. And, we may even get a transfer in. Catcher will be addressed without having to put Crews there.

Sorry, I’m not saying he is gone, but that dude is not safe.

5 of those 8 horrible batting seasons listed came under Manieri.
