This won’t cut it…if we don’t see some new comer names in the lineup next year then we will be meh
Joubert will be in the lineup. If either of the two C recruits we have make it to campus they will likely be in the lineup as well. And you might have Simon in there. You'll see some new names, but I expect our lineup to be much improved from this year just based on development alone. If Crews, Morgan, Thompson and Arnold make a normal progression, that's half your lineup that has improved off the bat.

Morgan to OF? Crews to catcher? I don't care who you are, but that's funny right there!
We better hope our pitching rotation starts with Hill and Hilliard.
Dugas coming back is another key.
We need a couple of new position players out of the incoming class that can hit.
I expect a couple of the incoming pitchers to get a number of innings. We recruited a strong class.
Too many variables to feel confident on Omaha level or not for me. Time will tell.

Crews will never catch at LSU.
Morgan at some point will probably play the OF. That is what his physical and athletic profile will eventually take him as a professional.

All of this is irrelevant until we see who arrives on campus.

At the next level he’s almost assuredly in the outfield
Why?
Guy has gold glove level defensive talent at 1st. If he works on some fundamentals he’ll be top tier elite. He is oozing talent.

You should add Doughty and honestly Dugas to this as well. This was Doughty's first year seeing SEC pitching, and Dugas was hurt much of his freshman year and only got 71 at bats the last 2 years combined.

The pushback in the comments about this is strange.
No, you aren't likely to find someone who can play that position better defensively. BUT...with Morgan in the outfield you might be able to field a better 1 thru 9. It's really that simple.

6'0" 1B hardly exist in the major leagues.
And have you seen Morgan run? Dude can fly.
He profiles as a 1-2 MLB hitter. High OBP, moderate power, speed. OF'er.

That's the main point here.
Joebert, the kid from Delgado, is by all accounts strictly a 1B/DH type.
He just hit 386/469/813
Yes, you read that right, he slugged .813
For the sake of this argument, I am going to pretend like he is a thing and that he has a lineup spot at either DH or 1B.
I prefer 1B, then move Morgan to CF, and let someone else DH that is a way worse OF'er than Morgan would be. Whether that is Dugas, Arnold, Travinski, Drost, whomever.

Question,
We sign a lot of Delgado and LSUE players.
Some pan out, some do really well, but it seems the majority do not cut it. Any idea of the success rate from each school?

Do you approach Crews & see if he’s open to catching?
Only if you want him in the transfer portal.

I don't think next years catcher is on the roster yet, or incoming. And for this exercise, let's pretend Dugas does indeed capitalize on his great season and explores his professional option.
Could look something like this:
C: ---
1B: Brayden Joebert (Delgado, .386 16 HR .813slg)
2B: Jack Merrifield (LSUE, .399/483/.592)
SS: Jordan Thompson
3B: Cade Doughty
LF: Brody Drost
CF: Tre Morgan
RF: Dylan Crews
Util: Drew Bianco
DH: Zach Arnold

Drost will really need to turn the corner bc Pearson and Stevenson both hit well enough and are far better defensively than Drost. The snowman could be stuck in a DH battle for awhile.
I agree about catcher. I think Milazzo will improve, but the incoming freshmen will push him...and the new coach may even bring in his own guy, be it a transfer or recruit.

I think for the most part they are usually pretty useful
Raph Rhymes
Zac Person
Sean Mcmullen
joey bourgeois
cole freeman
feduccia they released too quickly
there have been a few duds obviously.

Drost was young for his grade though. Like he & Pearson are the same age.
Stevenson is already 19.
Drost's development should accelerate. He already showed some nice flashes as a freshman. I like him a lot.

I really think Drost has the capability of being Deichman like by the time he's a junior. He has the frame to bulk up a bit and has a smooth swing from the left side.
For some reason, posters here are dead set on giving up on true freshman that have high ceilings (Thompson and Drost).

Neither Drost nor Morgan have turned 19 yet.

Agreed. He needs to go and get as many at bats this summer as he can. He'll be fine.

I was about to post this...it took him 1-1/2 years to get going.
When LSU brings in an actual hitting coach Drost will be an everyday player.

I'm not giving up on him. He just needs to turn the corner (i.e. reach his potential) if he's going to be in the lineup over guys that can hit as well and are better defensively.
