He hit 0.288 and lead the team in HRs the next year with 11. Second in doubles with 14.

Is there any concern that Crews goes JUCO so he can cash a check next summer?

For some reason, posters here are dead set on giving up on true freshman that have high ceilings (Thompson and Drost).
Freshmen like Bregman and the two guys from this year really spoil the fanbase. Freshmen in the SEC are not supposed to do that. And well, the fans start to expect that from all of them.
Thompson has been a target too. Playing SS in the SEC is a monster for any player, much less a Freshmen who wasn't supposed to play there to begin with.

If Crews was worried about cashing a check he would have never come to LSU. He knew it would be a three year deal if he did.

Pitching will be the weak link of the 2022 Tigers. The attrition is just horrendous with Hilliard, Labas, Marceaux, Fontenot, Beck, Vietmier and others gone

Hilliard and Labas were on the 2017 team! How do they still have eligibility?

Covid.
ETA: Fontenot and Hilliard get extra years. Labas is a Junior.

Hilliard can use his Covid year.
Labas would be coming back for his RS Senior year. He could also use his Covid year for the 2023 season.

Reality is we played so many freshmen especially at pitcher because of poor recruiting in the three previous years.
Now Morgan and Crews are phenoms, but none of the others are; yet they had to pksy.
Frost can certainly become a good SEC OFer and Thompson a good SEC SS. There is potential there too for several of the pitchers to blossom too.
The key in the mid term is his many of the incoming class will excel, fill roles or bust out. We haven’t had top classes in consecutive seasons for awhile now.

Covid for Hilliard but Labas was only a junior in eligibility this season anyway (was not here in 2017). He technically has two more years with the covid option included.

Hilliard was pitching Central HS to a state championship in 2017.
He & Labas were both Freshmen in 2018

We will be fine on the field except for catcher. We have to figure that shite out quickly. Pitching is a true unknown. You have so much talent but almost no development. I'm not sure any freshman pitcher got better throughout the year. None of them improved a pitch or found something new. But that doesn't mean they can't for next year.

I think Coleman got a little more consistent by the end of the year.
But I felt like every freshman pitcher showed something to give us hope for them down the line.
A bunch of them are scheduled to pitch this summer. I'm hoping they can go out and get some innings to work on secondary pitches and stretch out for a potential starting role.

I thought the Covid draft played a big role in why he pulled out. He also knew he could to a JUCO to avoid the three year wait.
