Hope this doesn't turn out like George's uniform idea.

Sounds like LSU will be the only school using it this year.

Seems like a legit advantage for the first 6 weeks of the season

Weren't they tinkering with this technology when they were figuring out football during the pandemic? They wanted to keep players from breathing on each other but wanted them to be able to breath. Was some circulating air system in the helmets if I remember correctly.

I don’t know, seems a little gimmicky

But you know what they say… cooler heads prevail

Was more about circulating the air out of the helmet, I believe. But that was an eternity ago. Probably right, just AC.

The LSU football program announced on Friday that it has partnered with a Louisiana sports technology startup to develop a new helmet that features battery-powered fans to enhance air flow inside and eliminate fog on the visor.

Just last month, two LSU players were outspoken about their displeasure with a new face-shield that was introduced to fight the spread of COVID-19. Starting left tackle Austin Deculus said it was like "breathing in a Ziploc bag." Redshirt junior outside linebacker Soni Fonua added "I can't [expletive] breathe under this thing" in a TikTok video that surfaced on Twitter.

Fog up on a helmet visor, especially in the Louisiana heat, can lead to fatigue and dangerous health conditions, including heat stroke. But now—at least at the moment—LSU feels like they've found the solution for a more comfortable helmet as the season nears.

"The new devices, literally driven by the fans are being tested by LSU players," said a statement from the athletic department. "The improvements will help them stay cooler and more comfortable on the field, allowing the athletes to keep their helmets and additional COVID-19 safety gear on longer."

The release also states that the portable power packs can last up to eight hours, meaning players could keep their helmets on for an entire game without issue.

"Player health and safety is a top priority at LSU," said Head Coach Ed Orgeron. "Our staff makes sure our players have the best equipment and technology so we can have them on the field as safe as possible."

I'm an industrial electrician and have to use arc flash hoods regularly, even in cold weather it's too hot to wear for more than a few minutes. The hoods that have the blower fans in the ears make the helmet wearable indefinitely in cold weather/AC and several minutes in triple digit temperatures.

If these can make even a quarter of the difference in comfort that the flash hood versions do I think this is a major improvement. Especially for guys that wear visors.

Huge if they can do that, visors are so prevalent now you need to be able to keep players from having to worry about them.

Well if any of them get in trouble now DA can't let them off because they didn't work in AC.

In addition to LSU, Tigeraire has inked a deal to provide the equipment to Texas A&M University’s football team. NFL athletes and players from other college football programs such as the University of Alabama and Clemson University use the company’s helmets.

Marketing: Karavich said it’s mainly been word of mouth. He said a player from one football team would use the equipment and tell his teammates about it; then they would acquire their own. That’s how the full-team order of helmets for Texas A&M Unversity’s football team occurred, he said.

They should look into fanless tech...
Airjet
Near silent and flat. They could be under the helmet pads, pulling heat out and pushing it through small slit vents.

If they can solve the fog issue, the next step will be to put the shield on the outside of the face mask to eliminate grabbing the face mask all together.

Just to point out, I linked the article from 2020 ore COVID season. I'm assuming these new helmets would help the fogging up situation but who knows.

Pretty cool.

Looks like the air kit costs $185 and will install in two brands of helmets. Riddell Speedflex and Schutt F7.

Each air kit is expected to last 4 years. They have a 4 hour run time per charge.
