Noted Dame ruled college football like Bama dies now. When they decided to change their long standing tradition of not pksying in bowl, the Cotton bowl had to have them.

Archie Manning single handedly beat us in 69. That 69 team was awesome. The rushing D was elite.

two years later Notre Dame played LSU in Baton Rouge. LSU won 28-8 with LSU scoring their last TD by pass with 25 seconds left in the game

LSU could have tied the game with a FG at toward the end of regulation but Cholly Mac went for the win and LSU lost by 3. LSU would have been co SEC champs

I’m joking but had that happened to Alabama they would be claiming the 1969 NC. Buddy they would have a NC title flag flying with the 20 or so other ones they have at Bryant Denny Stadium.

No championship games. Just bowl games and AP voters.

ESPN . . .

You are so brilliant. Problem being that ESPN didn’t get created until the early 1980s and when I was at LSU was pretty much focused exclusively on Big East Basketball (and a smattering of ACC).

I hate it for your father but I’d be telling a lie if I said that trophy didn’t make me chuckle when I opened the link. You literally meant they got screwed.

I get it. But from my understanding it was a game for all the marbles. If I’m not mistaken Nixon went to the Texas Arkansas game. I lived in Little Rock and they were still talking about that game in 1969 backs in the late 90’s.

I watched Eli kind of do the same thing one chilly night in Tiger Stadium. Just as soon as I thought we put that Ole Miss team down here come Eli making plays. I wasn’t real happy going home that night. Late 8:00 start and I lived in Santa Rosa Beach, FL back then. That’s a long ways home to ponder a loss.

Not true. Bama got screwed in 66 and again to a lesser degree in 78.

My mom was in the Texas Band and went to that game. She said the hate was real. In her years as a student Arkansas was the #1 rival, followed by OU.

Simple, the Cotton Bowl was the SWCs bowl game, they decided the opponent.

Their choice, invite a very good LSU team that could very well have beaten Texas costing the Texas & SWC a National Championship or they could invite Notre Dame to their very first bowl game and very likely win a national championship.
