With the current pursuit of Mulkey, it brought back memories of the search for Pelini’s replacement and being left at the altar a couple of times.

Do you think Ed Orgeron’s proclamation that he would be more involved in the defense going forward hindered or helped?

I don’t think O’s comment made any difference.

I personally don’t think LSU was left at the altar.

They got who they wanted.

I'm not seeing a connection to Mulkey, here.

And all coaches have some level of say in offense and defense. The question is how much.

At the end of the day, I always think it is best to hire the people who want to work for you, and not necessarily the one with the best resume you have to talk into taking the job.

Freeman was the big fish, but he obviously wanted to stay close to home (or at least his wife did). ND had the timing and could offer the location.

I think Jones was option #2

We really going to act like we didn't want Marcus Freeman?

Has Scott Woodward said he’d be more involved as to whether the WBB team plays zone or man-to-man?

I think We had 2 solid candidates lined up.

The other we got cock blocked by the Saints

Nielsen was #2 and would be our DC if O hadn’t spoken to him before asking permission from Payton.

That’s not what happened. Dennis Allen was interviewing for HC positions. The Saints didn’t want to lose Neilson because he would’ve been promoted to DC if Allen left. Neilson was the Saints’ “backup plan”. He is extremely highly regarded by the Saints staff.

Do you honestly think that Orgeron’s future involvement means he was not involved in the past?

If he was not involved, it speaks volumes about his perceived judgment, by administration!

Orgeron’s remark makes him look bad!!!

LSU had to settle with a lower tier hire- what top-notch defensive coordinator would come here for a two-year contract?

From the outside it appeared Woodward did not have a whole lot faith in Orgeron being here for an extended period of time.

I think with time and emotion removed it’s easier to look and get a clear picture. Freeman chose location, and Nielsen valued the NFL over college. I don’t think you can blame either guy, or LSU.
