That course has never broken even.
When Mike had it, it would occasionally break even, but typically barely in the red. He use to avg 150-200 rounds a day out there.

I attended LSU in the early 70s.I played there many times when I was a student. The green fee for 18 holes was a quarter (25 cents) with your student ID !Many years later we would put together a foursome play a round in the afternoon have dinner, then walk over to Death Valley for a night game. I realize in lue of progress the golf course may have to go.Personally I wish the Box would have Major renervations...our best college baseball fans deserve the Best.

Does that mean I should book a tee time? I’ve never golfed the course.

The actual land the golf course is on is incredibly shitty. It needs an extreme amount of work for any sort of development to happen. By the end of this, don't be surprised if it gets dragged out because of costs.
The current PMAC is actually closer to the levee than the LSU golf course is to the levee. So lets not act like the golf course location is any worse than the current PMAC location.
Like every large project that is built close to the river there will be plenty of piles. You’re not the only person who knows this.

Back in the day, that course had a dog leg right near the open grazing field that the Vet School used for livestock. There was a big silo at the corner of the dog leg that was in the grazing field. Everyone used to try to cut that dog leg by driving over that silo. Few succeeded. Those who failed would try and crawl through the barbed wire fence to get their ball until they saw the bulls that were grazing there.
I remember that well. Also remembered hitting that silo and barn that was there. Never went into that pasture because of those bulls and I grew up on a farm. Those bulls could make some pretty wild sounds that scared me...

You actually require a much flatter, more stable piece of land to build a track. You can't use pilings. If part of the track subsides, you're fricked. Lots of prep work goes into it.

And 100-200 coeds a semester.

Lets hope its not ASM Global. They responsible for the Raising Cane Center, Smoothie King Center, Brookshire Grocery Arena in Bossier City. Those are some of the arenas under their umbrella.
Oak View Group would be my choice. Just look at the design of the Arenas and Age of most on the list. Looks like ASM has some old tired Arenas they still claiming.
Same but ASM is just the operator of those facilities. Oak View wasn't in the operator space until 2021 when they acquired Spectra. They were initially just a global venue development & investment company.
ASM's more of a venue operator with a development arm that can build these types of multi-use entertainment districts. Here's their portfolio. ASM
With that said, I bet they go with Oak View

The LSU people stated that the developer is funding 100% of the project. That wasn’t the case at UT.
How big of a difference will this make?

I think that was the case at Texas too. I know the Moody Foundation donated >$100mm for the naming rights but I’m pretty sure Oak View funded the entire construction.
quote:
The new arena is named the Moody Center following the Moody Foundation's grant of $130 million to the university. Oak View Group is funding the construction, and will manage the building in exchange for the right to keep most of the income from non-UT events, such as concerts and shows, for at least the first 35 years after opening.[7] UT, however, owns the land under the arena and will be the owner of the building. Under the terms of the agreement, the university will have exclusive control of the arena for 60 days each year to hold men's and women's basketball games, graduations, and other events.

For months, LSU officials have said it would be premature to discuss a location for a $400 million arena they want to build on campus.
I feel like this is going to be the Temu version of a power conference basketball arena in less than a decade.
Can you build a top of the line arena for $400M these days? That feels low-ball.

That's a solid number.
This is a multipurpose college basketball/music venue - not a +70k NFL stadium.
This cost about $325M:

My question is whether or not the $ for the naming rights went towards construction or not.

There is no reason they can't do a multi level parking unit. It doesn't have to be 10 stories high, but it seems like they could come up with a 4-5 story parking and some type of facility offices on the top floor to save space for future needs and accomplish more than one thing.

There is a reason. Money.
Unless their business plan indicates they can make money in the long run, I doubt developers would build it. I think that’s why the plan provided is counting parking spaces. The developers do not want to have to build parking garages.

No need for parking garages. The only parking problem at that location would occur when we have MBB/WBB AND a baseball game close together on the same day.

Hard to build without money. LSU Athletics is not working in the black.

That’s already been figured out. They have a private holding company that will own it for 30-40 year and then LSU will lease. This was already addressed months ago since the cost of this would be around 300-500 million. This holding company would maintain it and hold events. This is why the river center wouldn’t be allowed to hold events anymore. They made a non compete for this new facility.
