I am hopeful we finally do something nice for track and field. Our facilities are so embarrassing for a program with 31 national titles.

“13,500 per the provided graphic”
I think that is for the arena opened for concerts.. I read they close off the upper areas for sports to keep more of a college feel. The seating capacity of the arena closed for lsu sports will be slightly less than the pmac today.

I would not be surprised if the golf course project got up to $1bn after all is said and done
That would be a problem.
As mentioned by others earlier, if the thought is to model this after Moody in Austin, then $1B would be about 3X the cost of Moody...and I can't imagine anyone being remotely okay with that large of a number.
I see the initial thought being around $400M, so could see the final being around $500M.

$500 would make sense if you're really also talking retail and hotel accommodations as well.

Yep.
The Moody Center in Austin can hold up to 16,000+ for concerts and other events. But the capacity for Texas basketball games is just under 11,000.
I would bet the basketball capacity at LSU would be close to the same. Somewhere in the range of 10k - 11k

But that's what I'm saying. Louisiana will drag this with "studies" and while we know the state loves a good environmental study on any major project, I am going to guarantee you that we find this project to be a major hassle.
Austin is basically a desert. Baton Rouge is a swamp. The work to be done is going to cost more based on this alone.

I suppose they'll just have the University Club to claim as their golf course. I played the shite out of the original course before the move. I recall it well. It was very convenient.

Trust me, if anywhere can drag something out or frick something up over needless studies...it's Austin/Travis County.
There are projects not even those folks frick with, and these are those kinds of projects. Moody went pretty smoothly, if I recall.

Hahaha...it's not THAT bad here.

quote:The "Bar Scene" would have ZERO affect.
If you are a kid looking at colleges and you see the bar scenes at Alabama, Georgia, Ole Miss, etc., then you see LSU's, what would you think is better?
I don't think there are too many potential students with the "I really like LSU's Electrical Engineering Program, but the nearby Bars are not very Good, so I'm going somewhere Else" mentality. :
Leave it to a Rant alcoholic simpleton to spew out the thought that the "Bar Scene" is a major determining factor in College selection criteria.

Imagine the traffic shite show that will happen if they put a basketball arena in that spot.
Wow

Would it be worse than it was at the PMAC?

100%. TigerLand is an embarrassing place near LSU.

If the RR won't budge and they really wanted a pedestrian bridge across Nicholson, they could do one a little closer to Tiger Stadium near S. Quad Dr. The tracks veer off away from Nicholson around there.
It would honestly make more sense to build a pedestrian bridge closer to S. Stadium anyway. It would make managing traffic easier on football game days and would get a lot more use during normal school days.

Moody went pretty smoothly if I recall.

I’m amazed the LA House is surviving another LSU Athletics project in that area.
What’s the tea? Is it too cost prohibitive to move it?

Back in the day, that course had a dog leg right near the open grazing field that the Vet School used for livestock. There was a big silo at the corner of the dog leg that was in the grazing field. Everyone used to try to cut that dog leg by driving over that silo. Few succeeded. Those who failed would try and crawl through the barbed wire fence to get their ball until they saw the bulls that were grazing there.

Lets hope its not ASM Global.
They responsible for the Raising Cane Center, Smoothie King Center, Brookshire Grocery Arena in Bossier City. Those are some of the arenas under their umbrella.
Hard Pass!!
Just look at the design of the Arenas and Age of most on the list. Looks like ASM has some old tired Arenas they still claiming.
Oak View Group did the Moody Center at the Univ of Texas for Basketball.
OVG would be my Choice.
