Our Defense is giving up 5.94 yards per play.

That's 15 out of 16 SEC defenses - only Miss State is worse.

Nationally, we're 97 of 133.

Yay more suckage from the LSU defense. Great LSU defense seems like a distant memory now.

We also have to be at the bottom at turnovers forces. We never pick off passes or recover fumbles

that’s pretty bad, but even that’s in improvement from last year.

That sucks, but it’s talent more than scheme. Our DTs, god bless them—aren’t playmakers, but they also aren’t strong enough to routinely eat up blocks and keep the OL from getting to the 2nd level. So it becomes all too often on our safeties to step up in run support, and they are the worst group any of us have ever seen doing that. Routinely turn 8 yard runs into 40 yard TDs.

What is the median yards per play? That may be a better indication of scheme. If we could make some touchdown saving tackles in the defensive backfield, our average wouldn’t look so bad. It’s not like teams are lining up and getting 6 yards every single play.

But definitely not arguing. That’s atrocious. I just don’t think it’s on Baker as much as it may seem on paper.

Another thing, his defense relies on making big plays and creating havoc. We do a good job of that as far as sacks and TFLs, but we have 1 playmaker in the defense backfield—Zy Alexander. With the pressure we get, we should have 3 or 4 times as many interceptions. But our DBs simply do not make plays. Even when they’re in the right position.

Embarrassing. This team is getting worse each week.

We were really good at it through the Arkansas game

Since then, 1 turnover. Definitely played a factor in this losing streak

Were peace mealing 3 bad safeties, a backup dt and strong side de at dt, a very slow mlb, and 2 lower ranked cb true fr and true soph starters. It is what it is. For most part, defense has been much improved from last yr... and id argue were way worse talent wise at dt... and the rest is the same players. Bakers 2nd half defenses all yr were great until atm. And against Florida was solid until the big busted run at the end. Can only scheme so much around 5-6 weak starters

So we really aren’t much better at all on defense than last year

From 109 last year to 97 this year

And 3 years later, ND appears headed to the playoffs and LSU is an SEC bottom dweller. All for only $100 million along with zero accountability too.

Super lazy take lacking any sort of intellectually honest nuance. But you are you, so…

4 weeks ago many on here were fooled by how we looked vs Arkansas and were really talking up how improved we were from 2023.

Nominal improvements maybe, but 2023 and 2024 defenses are equally putrid and unacceptable.

our awful tackling db's and safeties is a major contributor to our huge yds per play.

This. Our safety play is putrid. Out of position, bad angles, and missed tackles. They do nothing well.

I wonder if DCs are salivating for the LSU job.

$2MM and all you have to do is be around 100th in the nation in defense.

Sweet gig.

Corey Raymond. There's a reason his last tenure here required a S coach to help. He is a terrible S coach and a mid level CB coach. But he can recruit! But we knew this when BK fired him and why many were against bringing him back.
