Yeah again, the length of Os contract wasn’t the instability
The fact that he was pretty close to a disaster In year 1 was.
Saban could have sold himself over O if O had a 50 year contract.

It's not arguable whether failing to get an extension is used as a negative in recruiting. It 100 percent is.
A negative that is likely pretty far down on the list of negatives used in recruiting.

I'm sure I'll get banned again, but what a pathetic joke. This administration is a complete embarrassment to LSU fans.
Remain calm until the details come out. If the buyout is increased, or there is a substantial raise involved... then it is time to freak out.

Orgeron led LSU to a 10-3 record in 2018, the best record for the Tigers since the 2013 season.
For a top program, a 10-3 season shouldn't be worthy of a contract extension. God help us if they increase the buyout.

not Getting an extension less than halfway through your contract isn’t a failure.

Way to go BOS! Let’s award mediocrity!

Please tell me then, what's the best way to outwardly show coaching stability in the program.

Why extend someone who is not wanted by any other program. fricking stupid

The length of the contract doesn’t matter at all. Coaches can be fired any time. It’s not high on the negative recruiting list.

Winning championships?
Being a very good team.
You can have a huge co tract for a lot of years and if you’re ducking your job isn’t safe.

Agree but LSU isnt paying "top program" money either. Hes the 36th highest paid coach as of today. He makes as much as Arkansas' Chad Morris

This is what the melters don't get. He fails, he gets fired - no matter how long term the contract is. Just look at Miles.

Coach O deserves it. Everything that was headed the wrong way under Miles, is now back on track.

We. Just got back to where miles was.

Buyout should be a sack of crawfish and Caniac combo

Haven't you heard? O had gotten a bunch of offers. We gotta keep him by giving extensions
He doesn't need to have offers on the table for an extension and/or raise to be appropriate. It's a bad look to have a guy finish a season in the top 10 and still be one of the lower paid coaches in his conference and at a big name program. It makes it look like the LSU administration still has no faith in the guy they've hired to run their football program. And if the administration is not showing they have faith in the direction of the program with Orgeron, then that, in turn, sends the same message to recruits. And you can bet your arse coaches use whatever they can to send that message to recruits.
Not to mention, it sends a bad message to prospective future coaches. Coaches know what they can earn on the open market because AD's have their wallets wide open these days. Let's say Orgeron is fired in a year or two. If our AD has set a precedent that coaches have to do that much more here than elsewhere to warrant a pay raise, why wouldn't they go elsewhere that has set a precedent they are more open to pay increases? For instance, at my current job, I wasn't looking nor did I have any offers from other firms; however, at my yearly review I showed that my performance dictated that I should receive a raise. And guess what, I got one. Keeping your employees happy is part of running a good business.
I don't particularly like what the business of college coaching salaries has become. In fact, I think it's gotten completely out of control. But it's the nature of the beast. And with the tens of millions of dollars SEC schools get every year now from their TV deals (which will only grow when the CBS contract runs out), SEC schools have plenty of money to pay absurd coaching salaries. The problem schools run into is the buyout guarantees, and if that remains manageable, paying Orgeron an extra 750k a year isn't some ridiculous idea.

Nah,
But we’re LSU.
Les had joe many years left on his co tract and how big of a buyout?
How stable was he?
We couldn’t hire Dave Aranda In 2015 because he was o. The hot seat.
It wasn’t his contract that made his job look unstable it was his performance in 2017.
End of story.

The fact that no one gives a frick if he leaves should tell you his worth. He lost to fricking Troy. End of story. With our personnel that feet should be impossible and it tells me all I need to know about O.
