I understand it's not common, but it's perfectly possible. Apparently Matt Luke and Joe Moorehead at Ole Miss and MSU have $0 buyouts.

They also have had literally zero success as a head football coach. Now Orgeron isn't MUCH better from a pure success standpoint, but he now has a Top 10 finish to his name, which is more than Luke and Moorhead can say.

Look at Morris' buyout at Arkansas, or hell Malzahn's. Auburn is basically stuck with him for the foreseeable future.

Morris signed a 6 year $21M deal with Arkansas ($3.5M/year) early last year. His contract stipulates:
quote:

If Morris is fired for convenience on or before Dec. 31, 2022, he will be eligible to receive 70 percent of his $3.5 million annual salary for the duration of his contract. If he is fired on or after Jan. 1, 2023, he will be eligible to receive 100 percent of his remaining salary.

So his buyout from the date of hire started at $14.7M. $15M nearly for a guy who took SMU to 7-5 best over 3 seasons. Now he took Arkansas to 2-10 first season there and as of today would owe him over $11M if they fired him.

$7.5M after this season and $4.5M after next season is peanuts compared to a lot of power 5 coaches (for Coach O).

I get it. Other schools have worse situations.

It depends how you define value. Is this a good deal relative to other SEC figures? Sure.

Is this a good deal relative to LSU's bargaining power in this situation? I don't believe so.

I think this is what matters most at the moment.

I mean, impossible to say right now, in 2 years, a $4.5M buyout could look hilarious either way. What we do know, is the $10M figure is kind of irrelevant, and probably the $7.5M figure because unless we did something like 6-6 or worse, he wouldn't get canned after this upcoming season. We owed Miles $6.5M and ended up settling for $1.5M because he got another job.

People kind of get hung up on these buyouts, and I wouldn't unless it was something crazy like the Malzahn or Fisher deals. Those can legitimately hamstring those schools' decisions, $4.5M in 2 years wont for us. It's funny because we praise what ATM did to get Fisher, but he got the most hilarious buyout in probably sports history. If he doesnt work out after 4-5 years, what do they do?

We also locked it in @ $4M through the end of the deal.

Like I said, I'm not going to fret much, I just don't understand the need to increase the buyout at all when we have all the bargaining chips. Let it go to $1MM like the previous contract.

No they just don’t want to make a 3 year commitment to a guy who hasn’t won 11 games yet.

Look a 9 page thread shitting on the coach who by all accounts has overachieved by what the people who are shitting on him expected. Give credit where credits due. It ain’t like they giving him Saban money. This is needed for recruiting purposes.

Ah so now the benchmark is 11 games? Last year it was 10

If he wins 11 games next year, will y'all be mad that he didn't win 12? Stop being a little bitch

You’re the little hitch who’s cool taking is from 3 teams a year as long as sports writers tell you it’s ok.

We haven't won 10 games since 2013 bruh, I'm okay with winning 10 games in a coaches 2nd year.

And you know damn well that A&M game was gifted to A&M.

We would have won 10 in 2015. You seem fine awarding moral victories so why don’t you include that one?

It means one year was clearly better than the other.

Is being ranked #15 better than being unranked?

You can have two equally talented teams, one finishes 6th and the other finishes 16th. It's mainly the result of when you lose your games. You lose 3 consecutive later season games, that's going to hurt your ranking a lot more than having your losses sprinkled out throughout the year. Doesn't mean one team was better than the other.

How, when, and how many games everyone else loses. I think If the media Pepe wives you as “over achieving” or “underachieving”

A&M was close but we got blown the frick out by Bama

In 2012 we lost 3 games all to top 10 teams all by less single digits.

Yep, that’s what most fans want. A winning season and a nice bowl game. Let Bama concentrate on winning the NC for the SEC. ??????????

I thought this team was an 11-1 regular season kind of team actually. So no. He didn’t meet expectations or overachieve.
