Where were all these MBB experts and Gameboy Coaches when the Team was successful under Brady and Wade and the PMAC was half empty.

F'ing hypocrites. Wade cheated badly, got caught, mercenary players left, and McMahon still took the job under threat of sanctions, had to put some semblance of a patchwork team together, and all you sycophantic Wade frick ups do is bitch that he isn't cheating like Wade.

If Woodward didn't think McMahon could coach, he wouldn't have hired him. Trust him. He's made good hires in the other major sports.

Its what did Wide Woody think would happen?
Next time you pass Woody in the hall, ask him. Inquiring minds want to know.
Did he really think this out before he fired Wade or was Tate adamant about making the change?
He probably expected a season like we just had. He had to fire Wade. The only thing you can rightfully criticize is how abruptly it was handled, probably triggering more players to leave without considering returning. Really wish Shareef came back.

Dear God.

Do you think maybe there is something different between the other hires and McMahon? Perhaps something like a long track record of MAJOR conference (I know ND is an independent) success before coming to LSU.

Kelly - 3 BCS/playoff appearances at Notre Dame
Johnson - 2 CWS appearances at Arizona
Mulkey - 3 National Championships at Baylor

There was reason to trust those hires because ALL of them had already proven they could win at the highest level before coming to LSU. McMahon hasn't. So he (and Woodward on this hire) haven't earned the benefit of the doubt like the other hires.

Some of you act like Scott Woodward is some fricking coach whisperer who can find diamonds in the rough. He isn't. He's just done a good job of hiring people who are already proven. He couldn't hire that type of coach for the basketball program. So his other hires don't somehow automatically attribute an undue benefit of the doubt with this one when we just watched him have an awful season and looked completely overwhelmed in the SEC.

FACT: McMahon had a great season at Murray St. last year.

Also FACT: Before coming to LSU he never played or coached at the major conference level outside of a 1 or 2 as a grad assistant 20 years ago for one of the worst coaches in Tennessee basketball history.

Also FACT: Prior to his hire at LSU, McMahon was responsible for the only two non-winning seasons at Murray St in 34 years!

McMahon will almost assuredly get at least one more year to prove himself at LSU. But he did absolutely nothing this season to earn any sort of benefit of the doubt. In fact, his stock as a coach has cratered immeasurably. We are probably looking at the next Darrin Horn. A guy who completely flamed out in the SEC after mid-major success who is now back at a good smaller program (Northern Kentucky).

Can people stop using the "he had to put together a patchwork team" excuse! So did gates. So did Jans. What are their schools about to do? Missouri is in the tourney and MSU has a chance to get in. Whether you agree or dont about Wade being fired and LSU having to move on, there should be no disagreement that McMahon has done a horrible job this year. And unless he does a complete 180 next year this team will be in worse shape next year

Now do the spending on each of those programs relative to their contemporaries. You’re making a false equivalency and deflecting by claiming each hire is the same but you’ve already ignored performance so I’m sure facts don’t enter your way of thinking.

We weren’t contending, unless you mean for a conference championship. We certainly weren’t contending for a national championship.

I've been here a long time bro. And there was LSU Basketball and LSU message boards (not to be named) prior to TD. TD is the best though! (Don't ban me!)

Even though this is my OP, I had to take a step back. I will always get passionate about LSU Basketball, when sometimes others aren't.

To think we haven't in some type of space talked and supported LSU Basketball, then you are wrong. Brady pissed us off because he was abrasive, no consistency, amongst other things. I think we've grown to like him better now.

We (generally - or me) liked the TJ hire initially. Then you see writing on the wall. CJJ was a terrible hire, even though he's a legacy and wished him the best. We had many game threads and discussions on here about Ben Simmons. When Wade took over, I didn't know who that dude was TBH.

I know that program from Capel, Anthony Grant, Shaka. Good success there, limited success next stop.

What Wade did is actually bring wins and enjoyments to the program.

So you can call me a "sycophantic" or whatever makes you feel better. I'm not stepping out of threads because you think something of me. I step out of threads because it's difficult to comprehend where this program is going and - and - when you are not watching, I will be.

We used to make a joke about how many players used to transfer when Brady was here…and that was long before the portal era. Imagine nowadays

I remember people kicking around the name Tony Bennett. He had one good year at Wazzou under his belt. Another I recall many were interested in were Tim Floyd.

When Johnny got hired I thought for sure LSU was getting Gregg Marshall coming off back to back 20+ win seasons.

He was coming off a couple good seasons at USC including a sweet 16.

Man, I’m bummed about McMahon. Nice guy. He’s in over his head already.

Did that happen? Asking.

Everyone here knows most of our criterion and expectations for LSU Basketball is 3-4/5 NCAAT, maybe a decent run in one of those 5.

We were close getting there and now we're not even close. Being the worst team in the SEC is not the goal.
