Wow. Absolutely incredible that both our Friday and Saturday starters have yet to issue a walk. I think it's safe to say their K-BB leads the nation. Hill and Marceaux are the only starters in the SEC that have yet to walk a batter.

I was going to try to get a FIP calculation done before the game today for our starters and the Oral Roberts starters, but the NCAA seems to have changed the way you can access stats and it's making it very difficult.

Can’t export anymore?

First, my issue was that I was looking on NCAA.com instead of NCAA.org. Org has the better stats site.

But also, I could never export the page I need, which is the "trends" page. I have to copy and paste it into excel.

Then I have to re-do the innings pitched calculation because the website doesn't total the innings up in base 3, it does it in base 10, which lowers the amount of innings pitched.

It's a whole big thing. But I also lost the spreadsheet I had already built for this so I have to make a new one.

So, based on the level on competition thus far it would be safe to say, lsu, hands down, WINS the "colonial athletic association conference", drop 50+ wins in regular season?

Walks - 48 (17th, 4th)

Interesting combination. Typically a free swinging HR hitting team is not also patient at the plate...

This team isn’t really free swinging tho. They have an approach and that approach is first two strikes look for one pitch in one location and if you don’t get it spit on it even if it’s a strike. This can lead to some 0-2 or 1-2 counts that will lead to more strikeouts but may also lead to more walks because you aren’t chasing bad pitches with less than two strikes which has been an issue for LSU hitters in the past. They also have a lot of youth so the strike out numbers are high and they probably will remain that way the entire season.

We have actually done pretty well vs off speed. I know at least 3 HRs have been off curve balls. Crews has 2 and Doughty’s grand slam are the ones I remember. There may be more. The doughty slam was on a 2-2 count. Can’t remember the counts for Crews.

Wish I could give you more than 1 upvote. Thanks for posting.

It will be exciting to see if our bats can stay hot against SEC pitching. Great start to the season. Our pitching is as good as advertised. Our closer has some early season rust, but will settle down.

Going to be a fun year. The SEC talent level will keep things interesting all year.

FIP

Jaden Hill - 2.41
Landon Marceaux - 1.37
AJ Labas - 5.11

The ERA of the entire NCAA is 4.98. I'm still deciding on if I will do the Oral Roberts starters.

Marceaux really has looked the best so far. His control is on another level.

Good stat that seems to better project good pitching on a year to year basis in the MLB than ERA

ERA takes away errors but this goes a step further taking out the defense entirely. It’s not perfect but it tells you how good a pitcher is at getting outs on his own.

They really aren’t patient though, as a whole

Crews-Morgan-Beloso own 52% of the team’s walk shares

Bench players hold another 18%.

The rest of the starting lineup, overall, has not done a great job of that.

For instance, Dugas, Arnold, Thompson & Milazzo have 9 walks between them.

Doughty has 1 in 7g. I’m not all that worried about him, but still.

Drost has yet to walk.

And those calculations are as of this morning. As soon as the first game is played today, those calculations will be wrong.

Marceaux's FIP will change before he even steps on the mound tomorrow.

ETA: By first game, I don't mean LSU's game, I mean any game.
