Is Hillard still hurt

He experienced shoulder soreness after throwing. They shut him down for a little bit, and he is scheduled to throw in a scrimmage soon. That's the last we got. So probably will have to wait and see how it goes after that.

Hey OP.....How hard would it have been to put the positions?

I would imagine..

1) Antoine Duplantis, RF
2) Josh Smith, SS
3) Saul Garza, C/dh
4) Daniel Cabrera, LF
5) Zach Watson, CF
6) Whoever is 1B that game
7) Brock Mathis, C/DH
8) Broussard, 2B or Hughes 3B
9) Broussard, 2B or Hughes 3B

At least from what others have said with CPM saying he likes Smith as SS. Then again I guess Smith and Hughes could flip positions.

This is pretty much it. CPM said that Garza probably won't be ready to play catcher until SEC play due to injury, so Mathis will catch to start the year and Garza will DH.

Four names were mentioned as potentially starting at 1B: Drew Bianco, Cade Beloso, CJ Willis and Gavin Dugas. No clear favorite there at this point, we'll have to see how spring ball plays out.

cheer you going to any games at the box? I know you live over in enemy territory or around there.

Cheer is a Godsend. I can't imagine doing what he does for every game. Even when I'm watching the game I enjoy reading his posts on each play.

I hope I can get to the Box this year, but no solid plans yet. Possibly the Ole Miss series. I know I'll be at the UGA series in Athens, and hopefully part of the SEC tourney.

Hughes in the starting lineup is a bit surprising...and concerning.

I'm neither surprised or concerned about Hughes being named the starting third baseman. His hitting has improved since last season and he is one of the best defensive infielders on the team. If his bat drops off to the point that Mainieri decides that he has to make a move, there are several good options ready to step up this year.

He's been hitting much better. Still not a .300 hitter, but a lot better than .215

He'll probably steal more bases this year as well.

Who is the early favorite for weekday starter? Labas or Gilbert?

Labas is injured. No timetable for him returning, because it’s one of those mystery injuries. We won’t have a weekday starter. CPM has a lot of pitchers that he needs to get innings. The weekday games are the games to get them. He will sit the starter after two or three innings and roll through his lineup. He won’t get the style points you year for, but he’ll get the team ready for the post season.
