This has to be a misprint. Cabrera had 115 at bats & drove in 14 runs, but he had 10 SB's.

Did he lose like 25 pounds or something?

Hughes had 110 ABs on the season. Not sure why his playoff stats aren't included but he hit an even .200 for the summer.

The Cape Cod League rosters are built by MLB scouts. You could argue that the talent is pretty close to Short Season Single A ball, maybe.

That in itself is an indictment on Maneiri's recruiting. A kid with a career .959 fielding percentage should never be the best infielder on any LSU team.

I don’t think Hughes is a good player either, but we last won an NC with a SS who fielded 960 before that 938.

The least of the problem is Hughe’s 959 fielding %.

Oh and both of those SS made it to mlb.

They were separated. I can add them tomorrow or later tonight.

Anyone know why Garza only played in 5 games?

Anxious to see what coach Smith can do with this team for this year.

At least it looks like it isn't the volunteer hitting coaches LSU has. These guys can't hit in summer ball, either.

Tranvinski’s strike out ratio is pure garbage.

I don't think anything to worry about with Garza. He started summer ball late. My guess is he was just resting up from a season that he played at less than 100% for a large portion of it.

Losing Cairo to pro ball was a big lost. It's possible we didn't sign any infielders capable of playing SEC SS at a respectable level. Maybe Cade Doughty, but as of this summer he looks a lot better at third. Maybe Zach Arnold or someone else will surprise. If a newcomer doesn't emerge, we have no choice but to go to Hughes and we should be thankful we have that option. The plus side of Hughes starting is he is our most experienced infielder. We could easily have a true freshmen at third and possibly second as well. Some experience at SS might be of some benefit.

I am excited about Coach Smith as well. I don't think he will improve every player but I can see him making a big impact on some of the players. Dugas was not good this summer but the potential is there. Digiacomo swung at a lot pitches he had no business swinging at and still had a good batting average. Can he make Cabrera the terror he is capable of being? Travinski is another I can see him making a big impact on and there will probably be others.

Time for this to end! Sorry, I don't care how good his glove is! He just can't hit!

Cade D is going to be fun to watch! Wes Toups must have some wheels on him. 12 steals in 24 games. I guess we will see him pitch running a good bit!

Project, what’s the story on Zack Mathis? You think he locks down an infield position? Are his 14 HRs last year a product of the competition/ballpark? He’s not a big kid.

He played primarily SS for his JUCO team last year, but has played 2B, 3B, and OF before. The Twins drafted him as a Catcher. So he's at least capable of being a utility guy. I could see him either at SS or 2B. I think Doughty could lock down 3rd, but I'd like to see him tried at SS before that.

As far as his power numbers, he played at a California JUCO for a loaded team in NorCal. I don't know much about their competition or their field though. I just know they sent a ton of guys D1 and had a few drafted.
