Created an account to donate, but some kind of error prevented me from doing so. Such a stupid way to do this. Many people will give up by avoiding creating an account or experiencing a website error.

this is an excellent point, although in the school's defense i believe this fund was expressly intended to facilitate donations from members of taf (i.e., boosters).

Definitely sad but football probably saved his life and will give him a fighting chance. This probably goes undiagnosed if he were a normal, everyday early 20s guy with some occasional vertigo.

Depends on if there is metastasis, if there is complete surgical resection, and if the tumor is positive for c-erb -2 receptor

1) best outcome: no CSF metastases, complete surgical resection and negative c-erbB-2 expression: 5-year-survival 100%

2)bad outcomes :no CSF metastases, complete surgical resection and positive c-erbB-2 expression: 5-year-survival 54%

3) worst outcomes: CSF metastases and/or incomplete surgical resection: 5-year-survival 20%

“The surgery was successful in removing the tumor, and there is no evidence that the cancer has spread.”

So looks like no Mets and complete surgical resection. So main thing is the receptor erb, but even if that’s positive it’s a 50% chance. 100% survival if it’s receptor negative

In case anyone is interested, here is a link to the St Jude's site on this form of cancer. Interesting that it is considered a pediatric form of cancer. Survival rates, which you can see from the link, are ~70% without spread to spinal canal and ~60% with. I give these numbers in case some folks are considering donation but are wondering how poor the prognosis is. While the numbers aren't great, they clearly show a fighting chance and perhaps support would be helpful, if you are so inclined. Website also shows what the common treatments may be. Good luck and best wishes to Greg and his family as they start this battle.

"Lots of factors": my radiologist, for prostate cancer, told me that those patients who are in good to great shape have "a huge leg up" on recovery. GB should easily fit in this range, so he's got a running start in beating this crap. Having such a supportive family & friends are a big help, too.

Damn. Terrible to hear that it is cancer. Talk about a radical change to his life now. No more football and he will need to undergo treatment. I hope he and his family never have to pay a dime for any of it.

Can you explain receptor crb? And how quickly do they get that information?

I assume they just test the spinal fluid?

My brother had a Medulloblastoma. The cancer is survivable, but he likely paid a great cost to remove a tumor that attaches itself to the brainstem.

It ain't no joke when they say his speech and ability to communicate has been impacted. I hope he has a better recovery than my brother.

I'll be donating to the Victory Fund to support

I can’t even get the link to work. Anyone else having issues getting into this site? Would love to contribute but as said by others, the easier it can save, the greater the outcome.

Erb receptor is Humanized epidermal growth factor receptor 2.

It’s a proto-oncogene which basically means it helps cells grow and divide. But when it fricks up it becomes an oncogene (cancer causing) with unregulated cell growth and replication.

They took out the tumor and will send it to pathology who will run tests on the sample. Depending on the hospital I’d say probably 1-3 days to find out after removing the tumor.

Terrible news but quick search says this type of tumor has 70-80% survival.

Definitely way better news than it being glioblastoma. My good friend had that type of brain cancer and was gone in 10 months. Prayers to Greg and the Brooks family
