They weren't going to make Bama play Auburn, Tennessee, and LSU every year although it already does so.

Me too, but the SEC office wasn't about to stack Bama's annual rivals with Auburn, Tennessee, and LSU. I understand they need to try to balance the strength of schedules as best as possible and Auburn and Tennessee are both probably bigger long term rivals for Bama. The LSU rivalry didn't really take off until Saban went to Bama.

A&M is more a rivalry for LSU than Arkansas. I remember LSU playing the Aggies yearly as far back as 1960, and I know we played Florida yearly as far back as 1953.

Arkansas was only a big deal for Shreveport/Bossier folks who have a big Arkansas alumni base. The only time I remember playing Arkansas growing up was in the 1966 Cotton Bowl.

Just noticed this as well.

How in the world did Alabama and Vandy end up with the same 3 rivals: Auburn, Tennessee and Miss. State? Somehow that seems unnatural.

I promise you LSU lobbied HARD for this.

The problem is rivalry weekend.

We have no one to play on rivalry weekend. In conference options are Mizzou, OU and Arky.

We theoretically could go to playing Tulane yearly but realistically that’s not happening.

Thus given that we were already taking on TAMU (which makes 100% sense but that’s not the topic of this post) I’m sure our admin lobbied for someone with more history than OU.

Hence the arrival at LSU-arky on rivalry weekend

I’m okay with it. Not super excited about Arky but without gumps, maybe we’ll get a relatively tame SEC schedule every now and then.

Last time we didn't play Alabama was 1963. LSU vs Bama in Tiger Stadium once every 4 years sucks IMO. But it is what it is.

…what it is, is the SEC giving up it’s marquee game of the season. Ultra-bizarre that Birmingham/Saban got abc to be ok with making bama’s visit to tiger stadium less frequent. Money talks, not this time

This absolutely is about SEC leadership being hell-bent on every team having an annual opponent for Thanksgiving weekend and not being able to think outside the box on that issue. That forced them to deviate on LSU and Arkansas’ schedule makeup so they can play that weekend.

The problem is with SEC leadership not being able to think outside of the box. There was absolutely no reason LSU couldn’t alternate between Arkansas and Oklahoma on rivalry weekend, while Missouri did the same.

As a season ticket holder this sucks. Alabama, Florida and auburn were the games to look forward to. Nothing exciting about playing A&M.

I’m operating in what’s realistic.

I’d have lobbied for the SEC to tell Florida move your game with FSU and pit lsu and FLA there. It would be in the interest of the conference but then there’s reality.

The SEC and tv networks want to sell rivalry weekend with a permanent match up and thus we get the best available option-arky

So you think giving up the best games nailed it? Nothing exciting about playing A&M. Taking away Alabama and Florida is just wrong. Also no Auburn. Those are the best games.

Why do they need 10 “rivalries” to sell that weekend? There’s only so much inventory they need to fill the prime time slots. It would be much better for the conference to have an annual LSU-Alabama prime time matchup to sell on another weekend with less marketable matchups.

Yeah it’s dumb but it is what it is.

Your idea is a solid one I agree and believe me I want one out of auburn and Florida
