Yep. 2014:

Lousiana-Lafayette and coach Mark Hudspeth confirmed to the Lafayette Advertiser Thursday that Hudspeth has signed a new six-year contract, one that raises his base salary by $200,000 and will pay his an average of $1.075 million over the course of the total $6.45 million contract.

And Kiffin left a 1.4mil salary at Bama to take FAU for 1mil.

It's no secret Canada wants a shot at being a HC. Whether there is a rift with him and O or not, it is what it is.

According to "WHOM"???
You folks keep on speaking of this Canada leaving thing like you have some inside info or have been in on a closed door meeting!!

Let it alone. You and all the other idiots that keep on with this are not only showing your ignorance of the situation but hurting prospective recruits who may (are) reading!!!

Isn't Canada making like $1.8M? That's a big pay cut to go coach at a shitty school.

Thought I saw that Canada was $1.5 million at LSU annual salary and that Aranda was the one at $1.8 million annually?

Is it ULL having actual interest or that they have an opening, we have an OC that wants to be a head coach, and their campus is 60 miles away? I suspect it's more the latter.

What about Ensminger, the "thinking man's quarterback"? I believe he will take the job of OC if offered this time, a lot cheaper than trying unsuccessfully to get Enos.

I can’t believe some of you want Ensminger, who has publicly stated he doesnt want it.

He didn’t impress against the 2 teams with a competent run defense as an interim OC. How many points did his offense score against Bama and Florida in 2016?

His heart wouldn’t be in it. If you think Jimbo was bad this year, try Ensminger as OC under Orgeron and see what happens.

No no no to Ensminger as OC.

He would be the end of Orgeron.

I would literally throw up if Ensminger was hired as OC. LSU hired a head coach that no other school even wanted as a coordinator, so it is certainly possible that they hire an OC that nobody else wants. I just hope and pray that Orgeron appreciates his opportunity enough to not go down that road. LSU needs an innovative, unpredictable, spread attack, and an attitude that we can dictate the outcome of a game. Offensively, we have to get away from the "play not to lose concept." The A&M game was the first sign of this, so let's build on that and not revert back to old habits.

Look around this Conference. Damn near every school is going Spread-to-Run with a Dual Threat QB, yet you want LSU to stay a middling 22 personnel Power Run Offense?

We would bring a Nerf Gun to the Gun Fight while everyone has AK-47’s

Becoming the HC at THE University of Louisiana would see Canada take a huge pay cut. You can axe that one.

You realize Hudspeth made 1 million a year.

Year before last they scored 30. This year only 9. How does LSU compare?

I'll do it for you - 29 points worse than Arkansas in total.

I say for whatever it's worth that Canada will be back next year.

Well, let's look objectively at that.

$500 pay cut, but some will be made back up with various things- coach's show, maybe endorsements (do a few commercials etc). Not much, but there's some extra cash for the head coach that the assistants don't get.

He's young, he seems to have a history of butting heads with the head guy, and when he gets to run the offense he wants, he seems to produce some big numbers. About 600 yds vs A&M here, Wisky scorched Nebraska in the championship. His scheme is tough to defend... we moved on Alabama, his ACC teams moved on Clemson.

That "shitty school" is in a talent-rich state, with pretty good pickings from the LSU leftovers. They are in a conference with other "shitty schools", so he won't face huge talent disparity in conference games, and might be able to scare some OOC teams. And he would be the boss, so he can run the offense completely as he likes. He's pretty young still, might decide a good 3 yr run at ULL will make his name... he might be a viable choice for, say, Ole Miss when the sanctions end, if he moves now and has success. If not, he could be in the rotation for schools like UCF if someone poaches their next coach, or Houston, etc.
And that shitty school is less than 50 miles away from where he spent this year, so he wouldn't be coming in completely cold in recruiting; he likely has a couple contacts here now. Also, the shitty school has an in-state bowl tie-in, unlike lots of other similarly small schools. He could sell the Nola bowl to recruits who can't quite attract LSU's eye.

Not saying he's going, I have no clue. But there's definitely some reasons he might go.

Again, best case scenario is nothing happens and Canada stays. If that is the case then O needs to come out and quell the rumors and do it soon.

This.
I think M. Canada is a great OC.
He really did a great job with the depleted OL at the beginning of the year (running a new system too).
