We’ll see.
Kansas ain’t LSU.
They would score on Bama.

Otherwise, KU is going to continue to be at the bottom of the barrel in the Big 12.
What do you think OSU was before he took over? Hell he was getting black kids to Boulder when it was an all white town.

If so, he just suckered LSU and in particular Aleva into paying him an extra 1.5 Mill
Huh?

Average salary in the Big12 is roughly $4mil. Kansas currently pays the least at $1.7mil. Even assuming that NC and conference championship winner Les Miles would settle for that, a 4 year contract (taking him to 2023) would be worth $6.8mil which would effectively take LSU off the hook for the remainder owed to him.
He just got a $1.5mil lump sum tacked on to that.

Because any money Les makes in another job, head coaching job, acting, sports desk, etc. that new salary will be offset by what LSU owes him per year. Les makes $133,000 per month or just under $1.6M per year, and they owe him a bit over 4 years (4.1 Years Left) until 2023 for a total of $6.5M
Why take $1.5M now instead of all $6.5 until early 2023?
Its simple, he will make much more if he takes a job paying a nice salary, and this settlement basically puts a lump sum of $1.5M in his pocket from LSU. And for this to happen makes me think he is close to getting another head coaching job. If Les did not want to coach anymore and be a lazy ole boy, then he would keep riding this buyout and it's remaining $6.5M balance.
To answer your question- How he makes much more by taking the $1.5M now?
Let's use Kansas, Colorado or Louisville as teams that could hire Les soon. Those teams are not top tier but mid level to low, but Les has the pedigree to get top dollar even at low football school like Kansas. If he signs a deal paying him $2.5M salary per year for anything over 3 years LSU owes him $0, so take the $1.5M now and sign a $2.5M x 4 year contract = $10M + $1.5M = $11.5M > $6.5M

I am uncertain of the specific of how the salary offset is calculated. I suspect if you look at the details it will work out about the same or in LSU's favor.
Reports say that his buyout would be offset by any compensation he gets from other jobs and implies it would be immediately deducted from payments but I am uncertain if that is the correct interpretation of just shoddy reporting and/or writing (something I have come to expect from modern media, sports in particular).
It may be he would keep getting paid until the sum of his other compensation plus what LSU pays hom has reached 6.5 million. If you assume that is the case and that he would get 2 Mil from Kansas per year and the 1.5 mil per year that Les makes from LSU now it would take almost 2 years (22 months) to reach equilibrium.

Kansas is one of the worst Power5 jobs in the nation, with zero recruiting base there.
If Saban or Jimbo got fired and then landed art Kansas after a few years, this board would be on fire saying what a joke it is for a coach of that caliber to take a job at a place like Kansas.
The intellectual dishonestly on this board is unbelievable.

If I were GoodOleLess , i would hold out for every cent. How about over/under 2 years at Kansas ? How much a year will the fool make ? He might come out ahead staying the course & milking LSU rather than having to keep a job on his own merits. After having the lush recruiting grounds here in La. propping him up for years, let's see how he recruits in Kansas , where's there's a 5 star recruit every year or so.

You're a fool if you think he signs a contract worth anything less than $10mil guaranteed. Ed frickin Orgeron got a 5 year deal worth over $17mil with $12mil guaranteed.

Prediction: Les/Kansas deal is 5yrs, $20million total.. fully guaranteed

Les Miles is a true Tiger and will be one till he dies.
Yep and I will never forgive F. King Alexander and Joe Alleva for screwing over the man the way they did. It was time for Les and LSU to move on after the 2015 season, why in the world they brought him back only to fire him a month into the season is beyond me. I hope that Coach Miles goes to Kansas or some other school and has a ton of success, but the Hat will always be a Tiger in my book.

Les Miles is taking the Kansas job. If LSU did not settle there's a good chance they would owe him zero.
From a risk assessment, you're rolling the dice on $5mm so I see why they did it but from someone who just got back from Vegas...fck it I would of rolled the dice.
