Kelly is well within his right to want the full contract amount.
Yep, sucks he doesn’t want to settle but we made our bed with the handshake.

That fat lazy frick needs to be dragged through the mud for what he DIDNT DO while he was here destroying our program, and any clause in his contract that can be used against him should be.

Yep. We were always the retirement plan. Thanks, Scott.

I wouldn't take the entire buyout if that's the job I did. I'd have also acknowledged my errors as I do in my actual life.

I am SHOCKED that Kelly is being an arse about this.
An arse about money he’s owed?
Remove your bias for a bit and think about this.

If LSU wants to drag BK through the mud and air his dirty laundry they could probably get a reduced buyout but it’s a question of if you want to go through that.
It seems like Kelly is willing to take that chance. I’m willing to take that chance. I say make it as difficult for Brian Kelly as possible.

Makes sense now why he gives these huge stupid government type contracts

Just refuse to pay him anything unless he settles. Tell him you will meet him and his wife in court and we will let the world hear why divorce proceedings were happening in 2023. Let's hear his wife's explanations of what she discovered. It would be a shame if the entire football world were watching.
Might as well tell him to meet you at Sonic. That would be more effective (and entertaining)

quote:Yeah because Jeff Landry is a moron, has no idea how contracts work, has absolutely no idea how coaching contracts work, ACTIVELY DOES NOT LIKE LSU, and cares about appeasing one person - Donald Trump.
just as i had said many times. a huge crony with JBE and carville. GOOD RIDDANCE. but we have clowns here crying about landry calling them out,.
If Landry was an LSU fan and had LSU's best interests at heart, (first of all he wouldn't have said a word because that would be the smart, rational approach) people wouldn't be mad at him. He wants so badly to be a Long/Trump type. The problem is he's a grifter who's going to be a one term governor because he doesn't have the political talent that any of his predecessors had. He is EXCELLENT at getting bought off by the oil and gas lobby. That's about the only talent he has.
About 90% of the republicans (myslef included) on this board understand that.
The other 10% think he's like "Triggering the libs" or something when in reality it's almost all republicans getting mad at him.

quote:According to Kelly's attorney, that ship has sailed. If they were firing him for cause, they would've needed to say so in writing prior to his firing. Kelly would then have 7 days to respond.
Also depends on if there’s any actual dirty laundry that they have proof of.
I don't know if LSU can go back and bring up "cause" afterwards or not.

If someone owed you 50 million would you just puss out and say ok I will take half of what I am owed?
You don't seem to understand the contract and the incentives that the buyout creates. The contract contains a follow-on job provision that mitigates any payout from LSU. If Kelly gets a new job, his LSU buyout is reduced dollar for dollar based on his new salary. The $30m offer is a way for both to financial benefit by LSU getting a lower buyout and Brian Kelly getting to pocket both his new salary and the $30m LSU buyout. He can't accept the $54m from LSU and pocket all the salary from a new job. If he rejects the deal, then he'll be reducing his LSU buyout by every dollar he earns in a new job. Given his background and his success, I suspect he'll have no problem finding a good job. If I were him, I'd jump at the $30m offer and take a new job. That makes the most financial sense. The only way the $54m makes sense is if he plans to fully retire and not work, and I've heard the contract requires him to look for work.

30 mil at a 12% rate of return annually for 5 years gets you around 53 million.
Take the money and run as they say.
1. Assuming 12% return is certainly.. something.
2. The buyout is over 6 years, not 5.
3. The buyout is not paid at the end of the period, it’s paid in monthly installments.
So even using your hypothetical 12% return, and extending it to 6 years, it would still be dumb to take $30 million as a lump sum.
$30 million upfront with 12% APY over 6 years gives $59.2 million at the end of the term.
$53 million in monthly installments over 6 years with the same 12% APY gives $75.5 million at the end of the term. So the hypothetical $30 million lump sum at an 12% return actually costs him $16 million.
Doing the math at various rates of return, the breakeven lump sum payouts would be roughly:
4%: $47.2 million
6%: $44.5 million
8%: $42.4 million
10%: $40.1 million
12%: $38.3 million
So putting the salary offsets/duty to mitigate aside, it would not make sense for Kelly to accept less than breakeven at whatever return he feels confident about. That number is almost certainly greater than $30 million. It only makes sense to accept less if/when he decides that he actually wants to work again.

Only part that annoys me is he’s still being paid his salary while they negotiate but his attorney is saying pursue legal action if they don’t confirm by today. It’s like relax there is no legal action to take while you’re still being paid. That’s just a power statement. Friggin annoying.
