Agreed, it's just a fad pick, like in the late 90's when they had North Carolina in the top 10, which lasted for about 2 weeks.

Nice to see LSU at #6, but have to admit it surprised me considering the lost of RP. I'll tak it though since high preseason rankings can often soften a loss during the season.

This is a huge benefit to maintaining high rankings over teams with similar records.

I think the poll is pretty good...

LSU at #6 shows a ton of respect, and well deserved.

It's gonna be a fun season!!

A little surprised at the #6 ranking among the coaches (thought #8 or #9 was more likely), but will definitely take it.

Starting at #6 with games against 2 of the 5 teams ahead of LSU on the schedule--zero reason to complain, if you ask me. "Opportunity" is definitely knocking on the door.

It is interesting to see how the coaches voted compared to the SEC Media. Both division winners seem to be flip-flopped:

SEC Media
East: Florida, then UGA
West: Auburn, then LSU

Coaches poll has this reversed.

Spurrier has been getting a lot of flack the last year or so about voting Duke #25, so maybe he stopped doing it.

Bama unranked. teehee.

I was thinking the same thing.. How can UGA win the NC if the SEC guys won't even see them to the SEC Champ game???

SEC sportswriters, (esp. here in GUMPVILLE... )

Agreed, and I don't see the ranking as too high. I think it is a recognition of the fact that this team is loaded with talent, but is unproven at a few key positions. If the QB and cornerback spots play well, the Tigers are in the hunt for a repeat. The schedule is tough, but what SEC schedule isn't?

Top 5 should be:

LSU
USC
Georgia
Ohio St.
Missouri

Preseason rankings are bullshite. They are the only rankings that aren't proven on the football field.

Rankings shouldn't measure how talented a team is, but how much they deserve to be there. The poll should stay the same from last year.

How could you rank:

Missouri
West Virginia
Clemson

above LSU with the amount of sick talent on the team....?

I'm glad to see that it was all BS from a select few...

LSU @ #6 will definitely bump us up in the AP...if LSU were picked #8-#12, you would have seen LSU in that range when the AP poll comes out. Therefore, I believe LSU will be in the top 8 in the AP...I just believe that the Coaches poll does make a difference with "some" AP voters.

But, I could be wrong...we'll have to see guys!

The ball is definitely in LSU's court to make another run for the NC with this high position in the POLL...

Let's see if our young guys at certain positions (QB, LB, CB & punter) can handle it with a tough road schedule...its there if they really want it!

I question Michigan at 24.
I would replace them with Michigan State.

I've never understood this argument.
Unless every team on the list brings back the exact same players from the year before....
why would the poll stay the same?

I mean, winning the NC(or ending the season highly ranked) obviously helps you with the pre-season polls the next year. But why would they stay the same?

Michigan at 24 and Penn State at 22 is very odd, IMO.

I can see Penn being towards the bottom of the top25, but I think Michigan's only in there for what they did to UF.
They should drop out rather quickly.

Michigan State will end the season > Michigan.
