I think this is fair. I was thinking anywhere between 6-10 range across the polls.

Duke did not get a vote. What the hell? When's the last time that happened?

Probably since Spurrier quit voting and therefore could no longer vote Duke #25 in the preseason.

You did see that Bama dropped 4 games in a row to finish the regular season last year?

Key words being last year. I'm talking about this year

and they won a bunch down the stretch

Again last year. Michigan has a new coach who is implementing a new offensive scheme. Not to mention that they lost their starting qb, rb, both wrs, and a stud tackle. They have a completely new team this year.

How much of Bama's team is new? Does it matter if they return a bunch of guys who have never beaten LSU or Auburn, weren't born yet when "The Bear" assumed room temperature, lost 4 games in a row (including to ULM) and finished 7-6?

Michigan can argue that they should be ranked, and Bama has no such argument.

Alabama - 8 offense; 6 defense; 2 special teams

There's not a whole lot of new players on bama's offense. The only major player they lost was DJ hall. Now on defense they did lose some players.

Michigan - 3 offense; 7 defense

Only three returning on starters on offense not to mention having to learn RR's spread offense

I think the SEC could possibly sneak 3 teams, UGA, FLA, and LSU all in bcs for the first time in the history of the BCS system

Impossible...a conference is only allowed two entrants into the BCS games...

Why does everyone buy into Clemson every year? It seems like they get ranked somewhere in the top 25 every pre-season and never fail to disappoint...#9 for them is way too high...

at UGA being #1 though. That's just ridiculous.

I know, right? What were those coaches thinking ranking the team that had the strongest finish to end the season last year, with the most returning starters on both sides of the ball, NUMBER 1!?!?!?

agree - they were playing well down the stretch, but there is very likely going to be a steep drop in Athens....

LOL!! "steep drop in Athens?" How so? Is all our talent going to quit the team halfway through the season?

No, but UGA is starting at #1 (which I agree is where we all want to be) - which adds an element early that neither UGA, nor any other SEC team, needs: additional pressure/expectations. If I had a vote (and I completely disagree with preseason polls. I would like to see no polls until every BCS conference team has played at least one conference game) I would be tempted to vote for UGA. However, being number 1 (and we earned the #1 spot three times last year, all on the field, mind you) brings enormous pressure.

I think UGA is the team to beat in the SEC, period. However, that is a brutal schedule.

There are some teams like LSU and Florida who win championships, and some like Auburn and Georgia who don't. UGA will lose three games.

In a perfect system I would agree with your point about withholding votes until at least a third, or maybe even half, way through the season. But we have been dealt our hand and have to make due with what we got.

And as far as your "on the field" comment, I think even LSU fans would have to admit that you guys had a LOT of help for your two most recent championships. I'll be the first to admit that the SEC is the toughest conference in the land, and teams are just going to lose games in it no matter how great they are, but you guys did have some serious help from the football Gods. I just hope we get the same this year, if and when we need it

Very true. I will say I think that rule is bullshite. If a conference is good enough to fill up all the BCS games they should be able too.

See 2004 and 2005. Georgia is the best team in the SEC this year. Will they win the SEC? I'd bet against it because of the schedule. However, preseason rankings rank the best teams, they don't try to predict the final rankings. In most people's view, Georgia is the best team and that is why they are #1.

I thought we would be somewhere around #10-#14. This is a great position we are sitting in at #6. No pressure. I do not think Georgia will live up to that #1 ranking.

Actually #6 is the perfect spot to be in if we turn out to have a pretty good quarterback.

We're in the top 10 but not in the top 5 to draw a lot of attention.

The funny thing about the poll is if we played Ohio State 10 times we'd beat them 10 times.

That's why polls are amusing.
