Of course he was struggling and losing control. You obviously pull him if this is a crucial game. It isnt. Give him every chance to pitch his way out if it.
Also, this is hindsight, but it looked like Guidry might not have been ready anyway. Anyway, it was a judgment call by Johnson and his pitch count was indeed over 70. Not a hill to die on, just thought it was questionable.
