The only reason schools like Alabama have such large crowd for their spring games, is simply because they have nothing else but Alabama football.
Baton Rouge is so close to New Orleans and there is so much more to do other than attend a spring game.
Folks in Louisiana are very fortunate to have such a diverse culture and different activities to enjoy, other than attend a spring game.
Alabama football is all they have to enjoy.

I came all the way from Montana to attend the spring game - it's the only game I can afford. Not really - I was in Baton Rouge for another reason, but was able to fit the spring game into the trip. It was my first spring game, and I enjoyed it. But then I don't get to go inside Tiger Stadium very often.

Nothing needs to be done, it's a scrimmage and usually hot as balls or raining ...

Is this an indicator of the level of excitement a fan base has for their program?

That's because only a pussy bitches over a team scrimmage attendance in April when the team averaged 102,000 in the season. So many clueless turds posting BS these days.

honest question... is it even worth having a spring game (to the public)?
instead of watching them scrimmage maybe do something a bit more fan focused. kind of like how they have the NFL contests (races, passing games, etc). that probably wouldnt do much either honestly.

Not have it during Festivals.
Not have it during $20 all you can eat crawfish at crawfish cookoff.
Not televise it so people want to come to the stadium.
Allow people to bring in food/beer.

The only time the LSU spring game seemed exciting was a couple of years during the DiNardo days when he had the bringing back the magic motto after the dark days of Curley. It's fun to see new players, but it's pretty boring otherwise. I'm not sure why any school would have a lot of people at their spring game.

It comes off a bit funny to me that a program with a fan base that puts so much emphasis & attention on recruiting has an overwhelming majority opinion saying that attendance to the Spring Game doesn't matter.
The current generation of college age student-athletes are one thing above all: attention whores.
Anyone that thinks for a minute that having Tiger Stadium at merely 20% capacity for an event to showcase the school's #1 attraction doesn't matter is a fool.
These kids talk to each other, more than ever before, via social media & text, from school to school. Brings it all back to 1 big point: recruiting.
These kids want to be loved & celebrated. Because for 95% of them there will never be a higher stage for them & the coaching staffs, media, & their families/friends are bringing atention to that fact more than ever before. So, they want to be on the grandest stage every single chance they get. I know for a fact that coaching staffs at schools like Bama, Georgia, Michigan, Florida, Florida State, etc all use their attendance numbers & year round exposure to their recruits. Especially to the 5% of recruits that WILL move on to the NFL.
LSU is in a bad way out in the general public right now between the Lea Miles BS & the state budget/funding. 99% of you will never know or admit it because you don't leave the state (or your laptops for that matter).
LSU has miles (pun intended) of damage control as well as growth marketing to do in order to put our University back in the top tier in this country. It starts by doing everything you can to show this program in the very best light possible. Packed stadiums on TV, minimize the budget crisis press, increase the press on all of the great achievements in the classrooms/research/athletics/alumni in the world, etc.
The days of just claiming LSU is the best & that we're going to be just fine are long gone. A concerted effort FORWARD needs to be executed, across the board. Or else we will continue to be a let down & a joke to far too many in this country.

So having a larger Spring Game attendance builds LSU's image in your eyes?
