I've always thought polls were BS and the computer rankings were pretty good. Sagarin has LSU number when evaluating recent performance. Number 4 when evaluating the entire season.

Whats considered “recent”?

I’ve always preferred computer rankings except for one time in or around December 2011
But we really do need to remove the subjective human element from the committee room. Few of them even watch enough games to have a valid opinion, and there’s far too much at stake

Similar to Kiffin’s point in saying football rankings are flawed, unlike basketball. In football, it’s just Wins and Losses with no context. We need a better ranking system.

from the site "The RECENT, is score-based and weights RECENT play more heavily than earlier games. Its effect will become
more pronounced the longer a season goes if a given team happens to have an upward or downward trend."
It looks like general higher weighting to recent games
