I disagree with people who believe another year makes it harder to turn around the culture. In this era all it takes is the right hire.

It’s very obvious that McMahon isn’t the right fit here. Why in the hell do we keep doubling down on this sunk cost? No other program in the country takes this approach. South Carolina & Oklahoma will probably make coaching changes and here we are again just standing by while the rest of the conference continues to create separation.

I think the interview / quoted post explained it pretty well. TLDR timing matters.
He’s mostly likely gone after next season.
ETA: Why not a “basketball Kiffin”? What we don’t need is to waste money or enter a binding contract with a placeholder.

I’ll just count on him getting the full 7 years of his horrendous contract. Every excuse will be made for this guy. Results don’t matter. We’re just a glorified intramural team.

Verge couldn’t have made it much more clear that this is a business decision / money issue.
Do you want them to get their ducks in a row & nail it? Or would you prefer they just throw a dart at the wall + no aligned support because some antsy message board fanatics need it to happen now?

It can’t get much worse than what it is now. The product for the last four years has been downright pitiful. We need new blood. That’s why I said it doesn’t have to be whale of a hire. All of the other SEC schools seem to find good mid major coaches that didn’t break the bank. Why would we not try that same approach?
This is frustrating for us basketball fans because it’s very evident that this tenure is a failure (winning only 25% of conference games for Pete’s sake) and we’re just told “Shut up and take it.”
Oh well. Geaux Tigers! Beat Clemson!

We might, or we might swing for the fences. Either way my point is it feels like they know it’s coming & have a plan.
If 1 yr winds up being the difference between getting locked into a contract with similar hire vs something that actually energizes the program… would it be worth waiting a year at that point?
Verge has earned the benefit of doubt IMO.

I don't dislike the guy. He needs some work. Hope he gets better because the beginning of the show was tough to get through.

It's just about the money right now. Better off waiting a year. Maybe WBB can stop spending so much and football can earn even more. Both good possibilities.
Maybe Shaq and the Temples can raise some basketball money from themselves and donors who love basketball.. The overall fan support for MBB just isn't there. Baseball has the donors and fan support.

With the right hire and enough commitment to the program, it could be turned around in year one. This isn't the old days where you had to build a program through recruiting and development.
