The football transfer window has already passed, and he is not eligible for football this season unless he plays at UCLA.

He is eligible to play at another school in the fall.

But the head coach would then be suspended for half the season. He would not be allowed in team meetings, practice, no contact with recruits or players. The university would also forfeit 20% of all athletic revenue.

You can transfer any time and not enter the portal. Miami had one player that did it and he played until the end.

But now the head coach is suspended

quote:

On Wednesday, the Division I Cabinet adopted a proposal that penalizes programs that sign a transfer student-athlete, add a transfer student-athlete to a roster, or allow a transfer student-athlete to participate in athletically related activities before the student-athlete is entered into the NCAA Transfer Portal.

Penalties — which are automatically triggered — include a suspension of the respective sport's head coach for 50% of a season and a fine of 20% of that sport's budget.

The rule change, which was initially proposed by the Football Bowl Subdivision Oversight Committee and has been adopted for all sports in Division I, is effective immediately and applies to all transfers on or after Feb. 25, 2026.

Thanks to Bear Bryant and his creative ways of subverting the rules no player can play football and another sport unless he is a full time scholarship football player. Not sure how that affects the TP rules...

Billy Cannon was a track star also - held records for shot-put and 100 yd dash.

He was either fastest shot-putter or strongest dasher of all time.

To be clear, I think if a player does both, his scholarship counts against the football allotted amount, right?

Cap has been moved up from 85 to 105 scholarships

Not sure how many schools will even get to that number

Not worried about the actual #. I meant, even if he ran track for UCLA, he was considered a football scholly..therefore, the loophole wouldn't help.
He'd be going from football scholly, to football scholly at new school...regardless of track activities
